04B04. OV Tune # 1857 dongle 1.04r 91 octane. Nitto Ridge Grapplers 265/60/18. SaBellCo Tailgate Lock. Meso Customs TRD coin holder, gasshole. Tacomods black anodized aluminum radio knobs. Lock'er Down Console Safe. Sig Sauer P238 Desert. Escort Passport 9500i Radar/Laser Detector.
In my experience the 1.04r in ECT is perfect after a cold start. When I leave home in the morning power and shifting is spot-on. After warming up, the torque converter lock up is different and it won't up-shift to 5th until 52 mph unless you use the cruise control. A pain in the arse because my commute to work and back consists of 50, 40,45,50 mph zones. In highway driving ECT works really well.

@OVTune so you say that Toyota tunes this truck ass backwards with an old school tuning technique. Would it be worth it in any way to try to recode the tune to properly work like a modern tune?

I just read an article on the BBC about how these all might be the last vehicles (or at least close to) we buy due to driverless cars and all that coming our way, 20 years to full change over is what they're predicting at the moment. Sounds like the consensus is that they'll likely make driving as we know it illegal after a certain level of automation on the roads because human driven cars are so "dangerous". What a time of change we live in.

Edit: Although, an electric truck does sound interesting if they did it right. They say the electrics should be able to go for 500,000 miles or more do to simpler design and fewer moving parts

This may have been addressed already, but I have no windows computer and want the OVTune. Are the handhelds an option to get the mod since I’ve got only Mac computers.

From his last posts, I wouldn't count on an exact date, they're still finding bugs and
working them out with testers. This appears to be the final version so I cannot see him
releasing it until he feels he's done all he can do to refine it.

Just loaded the tune... but it's pouring due to Michael and all the kids are home from school. I really need to find a reason to drive her right now.

I believe so, to my understanding the handheld comes with everything you need, no computer necessary. I think you only need a computer if you get the logger from OVTune and want to do custom tunes. Other people here know way more than I do though, so I'm sure they'll chime in if I got something wrong.

Edit: I think you can run bootcamp or something on your Mac computers and get them to work that way as well.

This is true. You'd have to somehow flash your ECU back to an earlier OEM version with Techstream first.

1.04R M/T is only good for TSB updated trucks (04B13 and 04A71). 1.04A M/T is good for 04B10/11/12 and 04A70.

About all you can do is flash back to OEM 04B13 (16/17) or 04A71 (18) while we wait for 1.05...

There is a program you can run on a Mac that will enable you to flash tunes,etc..I don’t have a Mac and can’t remember the name. Someone will come in and tell you what it is.A lot of guys use it.

I believe he is referring to flashing back to 91 from the 87 map.

That's possible, but if you look at the post he quoted (mine) it doesn't seem likely.

Anyway, I'm sure he will chime in :)

EDIT - NVM, I saw his earlier post where he mentioned 87...

I use VMware fusion on my mac and an evaluation version of Windows 10. Works like a charm.
