Interesting... I notice misfires after I "floor" it to merge and then let off the throttle completely, and am showing very rich fuel readings at that time. Wonder if there is a correlation.

Im Curious @OVTune . Is your tuner only going to have one setting? Or will you be able to choose different settings? For instance, I don't believe I need more Horsepower for my purposes, I want to continue to use regular gas, but, seeing your graph about how bad throttle response is, I would like to be able to set for better throttle response. Can I do that? Will it have the ability to correct speedometer for tire size and gear changes?

How are you reading it as rich? Our o2 sensors are narrowband so we're not really able to see a rich value. When we let off the throttle it should be cutting fuel which would spike AFRs lean and probably show around 20 if that's what you're seeing.

Once this goes into production, and I think it will, it will take awhile to get a big enough supply to put on the market. I think they will go fast and some of us may have to wait awhile as they will be back ordered..

I have a standard shift and I can't stand the delay and lack of low end torque. I have no confidence passing, ever. I don't know how you automatic guys tolerate it.

Anyway, is everyone else getting pretty bad hesitation/shuddering in the lower RPM range (1500-2500) with higher throttle positions (not WOT)? I find in my mid gears it's like the truck wants me to downshift but I'm already at say, 2000rpm, I don't want to wind it out like my Lotus. So it just bogs down and chugs and hesitates, just like a misfire... It's a pretty crappy thing to experience in a brand new $34k vehicle, not Toyota quality.

Wondering if the OP has found any evidence of this phenomenon on their test mules?

Do you have a 3rd Gen or 2nd?

So the lower map does show actual throttle position..interesting. I was thinking it couldn't because how/why could/would you be at wide open throttle if you are decelerating? I know the basics of engines but not enough to definitively say you couldn't be at WOT during decel. Seems counter-intuitive in general though. I mean how do you prevent the engine from making power if you're dumping fuel into it? I'm sure its just not that simple.

OVT you guys have my money when this is available. I want to support the development of performance parts for the taco. I'm just hoping for a supercharger eventually.

eventually... but that's kinda useless for now for me with my MT truck. this thing is a one-legger open diff, and the only traction solution is a low-speed solution. there is no positraction or D locker style diff for the MT's new 8.75" rear yet. when that becomes available (hopefully in the next 3 years), then i could be interested in more than 300hp.

for now i'm still in line for the OV tune for driveability.

I understand what you mean it kinda sucks that these don't have a center diff with a locker so we can run 4 hi if there's too much power and it spins the rear. That would also be cool to deal with the added horses

I got the impression early on in the thread that this product is software, that will be loaded into the ECU using some programming device that already exists. Is that not correct?
I would also think that OVtune would also have the software tied somehow to a specific vehicle VIN number, to protect their intellectual property. :pccoffee:

Yep, AFR target around 11.07 Ignition timing about 39*, throttle fully open and cams retarding

We understand that there are many of you ready to go on this. We really just need to get one on a dyno and go. We already have all the mapping ready and already know the Throttle intelligence code to make the power....

I am getting more messages than I can keep up with.

Our kits are not car locked. You can actually share them with other Tacoma owners, our tunes are locked.

Is this graph a manual or auto transmission example? Any idea on the sample rate frequency difference between rpm and throttle position measurements?

There is no way those throttle positions overlay with the corresponding engine speed measurements. This isn't a diesel where you just introduce more fuel to get a corresponding increase in rpm. You need more air AND fuel. Ignore when you floor it and just take 05.000 as an example. You begin to build rpm, but there is no corresponding increase in throttle position. I guess this could be possible if you were coasting downhill forcing rpms to increase if locked in gear, but not likely if this is an auto because ecu logic would just upshift.

Between the little plateaus in throttle position and lack in variability corresponding with rpm changes, something is suspicious... It almost looks like the graph just straight-lines between cruising throttle position and WOT, with sample rate insufficient to capture the nuances / timing of throttle position with the same frequency as rpm.

This is on a full lock auto 10 speed transmission. The throttle sampling is the same at about 20hz for all PID. We do suspect that the ECU has a delay in relaying the data from the PID because if you look closely it looks like stairs, which does not make a whole lot of sense to us either, however we see this same thing on more than just one toyota. This is also a standard PID, and the same result is with toyotas proprietary throttle PID in Techstream

Let me see if I can find some IS200T logs, it has the same throttle intelligence coding (identical) to the tacoma and I'll show you what it does

Thanks, we will put it in the pile ( lol ) we have got so many inquiries on this I am going as fast as I am able to. I will be out of town from this friday to next wednesday and then I will begin.

we're considering getting started setting up 15-20 kits but I am not sure if this will be enough. We may offer a cheaper kit for people who are willing to get in early to send us their ECUs, as we expect there to be a lot of different ROM versions. We also need all auto transmissions too for transmission tuning

Could you start a second gen thread if you are planning on going forward with a tuner for them?

Sure, I think I mentioned we can do "DIY" kits and potentially a handheld on the 2nd Gen or we can do tunes as well. We can actually do the 2nd gen with our handheld tuner, we really didn't know there was a community for it.
