I also have to factor in the $4k worth of hail damage that happened less than 2 weeks into this rig (not even 600 miles!) and it seems like every day I somehow put a new scratch on the damn thing. Oh and I forgot that I managed to put a real nice crease in the roof from ratcheting down 16' 2X10s and siding even though I had padding underneath... oops. Coming from the "sky silver" or whatever that color was to this "cement", man does she show scratches :( I just need 1.05 to drop so I can finally decide whether I'm keeping this stinky thing or not. That ECT+S Mode shifting option has me soooooo excited :bananadance::goingcrazy:

Sounds like your truck has had a rough life similar to mine.

I waited a long time to finally get the truck I’ve wanted. Rear window got broken out. Place that repaired it destroyed my truck in the processs. $7000 later my truck is finally fixed. It was less than 6 months old at that point and took another 8 months to get everything sorted out.

Yeah, I'm not known for my good luck, haha. Oh, and I forgot that I pulled a real smart one on sunday and overloaded the rear end with a trailer, so now I need new leaf springs and shocks, according to a cursory look by the dealership, lol. How the heck did a window place manage that? I've already decided on the first sticker I'm putting on this thing if I keep it (because we all know how important stickers are, right??)

One of the panels in the rear window was broken out. Of course you can’t replace just the 1/3 that’s broken, you have to replace the entire assembly.

When they did that, they didn’t put the window back in properly, dented the cab, scratched the paint and ruined all the plastic in the rear of the cab. I wish I was exaggerating but I’m still in disbelief by the sheer level of incompetence.

To get it fixed properly they had to replace the rear window again (they are single use and you have to cut them out), remove the front windshield (also single use), take the bed off, fix the dent, repaint the cab, then put it all back together. Oh and buy all new plastic from the B pillar back (basically everything in the rear of the cab). If anyone was wondering, the plastic storage bins behind the rear seats in a double cab are $403 and $268

It was ugly and I was without it for about 3 weeks.

Me too - logic be damned! My Golf R I got rid of had a rev limiter at 7.7k & my dads S2K is 9k :burnrubber:. I rev’d out both of those and rev out the Tacoma as well just not nearly as often as the former :D

Edit: as someone else said a few posts above, not worth it for me if it is at the expense of low end power. Damn practicality...

I'm very new to pretty much all vehicular mechanics, learning as fast as I can though. All I know is that the leaf springs were pointing down instead of up, and even after unloading everything and detaching the trailer they're definitely more flat than curved now, and I think the part that's closer to the cab is still pointing down a bit. Only upsides are that I needed upgraded suspension anyways due to the topper I just got and my plans for armor in the future, and that the truck is still driveable as is. Besides, we all know that when 1.05 drops it'll instantly lift your truck and and some say it'll even make it float over the ground... :D

It’s kindof staggering when you realize how much money we are all spending trying to turn this car into a truck.

It is entirely possible the dealership was wrong, I didn't have hours to wait around for them to get it in for a proper look, they just had a mechanic come over and do a walk around. I'm always a little suspicious of what salesmen and such say anyways. I'm gonna have to deal with it at the end of this month after I get back from a long trip. Ideally I'd like to install the suspension upgrades and such myself, best way to learn. I keep seeing people mention the exhaust OVTune is working on, can anyone explain to a layman what it would do, coupled with the tune?

Honestly, I treat it as a capable off-road car. I stepped into this from a Stage 2+ Subaru WRX because of back issues, so it was a decent transition. I do miss the street speeds and the turbo though.

I've been mulling that over ever since I discovered OVTune. I honestly feel like Toyota owes us all compensation, all a lot of us are trying to do is make this POS run like it should have from day one, especially for what they're charging for these things. Definitely shaken my faith in Toyota and their products.

I don't know if that is happening but I was/am a tester for the M/T crowd and I am running the URD Y pipe with the secondary cat delete so Matt has data from a truck with modified exhaust.

I think they are building the taco toward how 90% of people use their mid-size trucks nowadays.

I’m sincere when I say that once I replace the suspension, reprogram the ECU, upgrade the battery, replace the gearing, upgrade both the exhaust and intake, install LED’s, reinforce the bed, put on a decent set of tires, protect the undercarriage, install a grill that will protect the radiator, reinforce the tailgate, install non-disposable radio knobs, install a new clamshell bearing, brake lines, bump stops, replace speakers, etc, etc, etc, then I am going to love this truck.

I think we have a few of the same things on our lists, haha. The radio knobs were the first "mod" I did, along with the seat spacers lol. I'm also in for upgrading the battery, installing a dedicated power system, solar panels, roof rack, lights and light bars, fridge, front and rear armor with swingout, maybe side armor, maybe a regear depending on 1.05, upgraded suspension with airbags to carry all this heavy crap, on demand hot water system.... just have to win the lottery to afford everything.
