Tacoma - OVTUNE - VFTUNER - Update Info and Original Development

Do hand held guys get a bunch of cool extras like real time metrics and stuff? Cus if they do imma feel really left out.

 

SUPER helpful post, thank you! We're a Mac household and I wasn't sure what I would do with a Windows machine, and I hadn't realized the handheld saves me from buying a computer I'll likely never use. Thanks.

 

I think people have been ok using bootcamp and possibly VM with mac to install the tune, but I'd get confirmation from others who have experience in that area. Also, I would confirm everything I've said with OVTune, I don't want to steer you wrong. I'm not 100% sure if you need to hook the hand held up to something to get the tunes on it.

 

That doesn't jive with their disclaimer, though. Not saying it's not true, but they state: "None of our products can be used at any time on any emissions control vehicle that is used for anything other than off-road performance. ALL Ecu tunes, Calibrations, flashes, files, datalogs, or anything in regard to the tune, tuning process, changes, are for OFF-ROAD USE ONLY NEVER TO BE USED ON A PUBLIC HIGHWAY".

 

how long was the turn-around from when you requested those file(s)?

 

That disclaimer has been there long before we've tuned tacomas.

 

This is for legal reasons. But obviously it can pass emissions with out anyone knowing you are tuned. Just dont tell them you are tuned.

 

For my 2000 mile trip, I used this setup. With stock leafs it’s pretty much just the air bag that is supporting you. I ran around 35-40 lbs in the bags which made my ride pretty firm. I had a bit of rake but felt I had slightly more travel than with a sag. I agree with you and did feel that the daystar cradles only served to reduce my already minimal leaf travel when on a stock suspension. For a stock suspension, you’d be better off installing the airbags without the cradles so that you’ve got a little room to move.

I concluded that I needed a new leaf pack with modest lift to get my suspension back on track. I think most of the weight should fall on the leafs and the air bags should just help them out.

 

I'm sure that's true. And this looks like a truly awesome product. But the vendor is specifically prohibiting it's use in the manner that I want to use it. That's kind of a deal breaker for me, anyway.

 

I use Bootcamp on a mid-2010 MacBook Pro...works just fine.

 

I have a macbook pro and am able to tune no problem with bootcamp. Also a lot of college/universities will give you a copy of windows 10 for FREE if you are or have been a student or faculty.

 

It's legal and will pass smog.

No earlier than Soon. Matts going through a tough time we should let him take his time + well get a far better tune in the end.

If you do dual boot your mac, make sure that you are within wifi range or tether your phone to your laptop in case Windows needs to update the USB driver.
