ahhhh. I noticed this too, just wasn't sure what it was. maybe they did it to prevent people from burning out clutches? definitely seems to make engagement less smooth. I usually end up using more throttle as a result...

Mat said he didn’t completely understand how the transmission tune works till now. HOWEVER his 1.04R tune is STILL better then what Toyota did to this thing and they wrote the entire thing! Got a good laugh out of that.

Does it matter if the engine is warm when I flash or should it be cold?

 

Temp doesn't matter.

Idle it for 10min after and you are all set.

 

Temp doesn’t matter. The engine not running matters.

 

I'm not so sure that temp doesn't matter. Will the tune work if you flash truck warm? Yes, off course. But the truck needs to learn cold idle targets, as Mat once said. Not sure how that is accomplished with warm engine.

First time flasher today - easy! Let her idle for around 15 minutes and then went for a drive. Running 1.04 at 91. Went for a short drive - I like it, it feels as if it shifts faster and smoother.

I'll keep the Shift Sense Pro for a few weeks or until 1.05 drops (Mat - take your time!).

I tow a toy hauler that has a total weight of around 3,800 pounds and I'm looking forward to whatever 1.05 has in store for us...

 

No. The service manual says that the idle learning only happens above a coolant temperature of 176*F (IIRC) for 5 minutes.

 

Indeed, cold engines use open loop until they reach a temperature.

 

You could still be on the stock tune....

 

Perhaps Toyota lost it or better yet threw it away after they wrote it.

 

@OVTune With 1.05 will the transmission Shift pressure be increased or be a custom option? In past vehicals I like to have the holding pressure in 1st and reverse increased as well as the shift transition pressure. This was done through valve body modifications so not sure what you can do through programming.

After months of trying to catch up in this damn thread I finally made it to the end. Haha. Those last couple weeks were brutal. Thanks d-bag kids toy will not be mentioned by name guy. Anyhow, very excited to finally catch up on this thread.

@OVTune , keep up the good work . Don't get bitter from the haters/complainers. As someone who freaking loves his Tacoma, even with all of its faults, and has now read this whole thread, I'm stoked you are doing what you are doing. Stay positive and keep up the good work. Oh, and to show how much I support what you are doing, I just ordered. Perfectly happy waiting until you've perfected 1.05 with all the awesome new features (especially shift lock) so stay positive and conquer that code!!
