This is one of my biggest gripes since I love to use s mode. The 2 second delay or longer is ridiculous and if I'm WOT I have to shift at 4k rpms in first or second gear to avoid banging off the rev limit, otherwise it won't shift in time.

I thought there are going be some S mode shifting involve in the 1.02?

I also vote for "learning" disabled. This was the main reason why I bought the tune. To get rid of the gear hunting...

I'm gonna ask here because reading 200 pages for one answer doesn't seem appealing. Forgive me for putting useless info into a busy thread, but is there any chance this engine can gain some torque around the 2000 rpm point? It's really sad how much it struggles just to maintain speed

@OVTune Quick update from my end...Truck is working well so far with 1.01B. The shifting in D is much better. Quicker shift and firmer. That is what I really wanted. As I have driven it since the latest flash, it has dulled a bit I guess, but still works much better than 1.01A. The truck certainly has more torque. It works better in the mountains and the highway as well. I swapped the K&N cai for the TRD cai which is really just a cover, cotton filter and slightly different diffuser. The truck is much quieter now, and the power delivery is a bit smoother. The K&N unit was driving me crazy with the noise and it was leaning it out too much. I could actually lunge the truck with the throttle being so sharp. At high altitude it was impacting mid range power/torque. What is really interesting though is the difference between ABQ and my house in Red River in regard to power verses altitude. My fiance lives in ABQ at 5500 feet, and I am at 9830 feet. I don't really notice going down to ABQ over the 170 miles because much of the trip is slightly downhill until the final leg on I25 which is up and down through three long/deep valleys. That said, driving back home the truck slowly loses power as the MAP, MAF, o2 sensors lean out the mixture to compensate for the lack of O2. In ABQ at 5500 feet the truck is just amazing. Plenty of power and the throttle is smooth and even. After installing 1.01B, I don't put it in ECT anymore except to mess around a little. I bought a 2016 RAM 1500 in February as a new work truck. It has a 5.7 hemi with 395 at the crank, and even though it weighs 5600 pounds plus 1000 pounds of tools, it has a shit load of power even at high altitude. I hated my Tacoma after this to be honest. Now with the current tune, I really like the truck again. It has good power and power delivery for a 4500 pound truck. That said, if Mat can get a bit more torque out of it and at a little lower rpm, I will be super happy!

Mat is sending myself and @Glenn_R either 1.02 with no learning or 1.01A with no learning so I am interested to see what this is like. I hate the learning. I want shifting consistency at all times even if it is at the expense of the clutch packs and the planets. I do not drive the truck like a sports car, but I like firm, quick shifts all the time.

One more thing...I have my truck parked on my property which is atop a great big hill on a dirt road. When I pull out of my driveway, I go down the hill which is very steep for about 200 yards. At the bottom of the hill there is another hill I drive up to get up to the highway. This hill is approximately 45 feet high and the run is like 200 feet. I used to get a running start at it otherwise it would just slowly bog its way up in first gear. Now it just drives right up like any V8 full size truck. This is the definitive difference for me.

From what I've learned it's hard for some reason to tune on the dyno that low in the rpm range. That's what data logging would help with. I'm just going off what I've read in this thread though. I'm sure someone has a more scientific answer.

Well that's kind of sad that a Camry gets more power than a Tacoma.

The "learning" would be fine.. if you could just make it "learn" to be smart instead of stupid . . .

I haven't seen anyone want the learning, unless they are messaging you privately about it?

I would prefer not to have the learning either. Truck was amazing after I first loaded 1.01b but now the shifting is back to how it was stock. Yes having more power down low helps mask some of the effects of the crap shifting but its still there.

I'd also like to see a poll or checklist of all the options we can get and select accordingly when thr development process is done

Is it possible to have options when sending our file to you? Can we receive both a learning and non-learning tune back to test which is preferred?

I was trying to figure out how to post a poll in this thread, but I don't think I can actually insert one into a thread. Will everyone who does not want gearbox learning, or other learning message me, so I can make a list to get a better idea how many here don't want it. I think this is something that most of us don't want with our tunes, and I would like to be able to present @OVTune with actual stats.

This is why I hate driving our 2016 Honda Odyssey now. It's the same weight also with a 3.5 liter V6 and it shifts fantastically. It pulls cleanly from low RPM and runs like a bat out of hell in higher revs. It shifts and accelerates better (smother, more consistent, not necessarily faster) fully loaded with 5-7 occupants than my Tacoma does with just me in it. Driving it reminds me how screwy the Tacoma's drivetrain software is...the only area where my Tacoma matches the Odyssey is in upper RPM power...and I didn't buy a truck to run around at 4K+ rpm any significant amount of time. The continual progress (with feedback) on the tune sounds really promising though...

No offense but why would anyone want to have the learning mode for the tune? Im sure this is one of the main reason we're here. We want "better drivability" and I'm sure the "learning mode" is what keeping us limited to it. Im tired of hearing Toyota saying " the truck learns how u drive and its adjusted to it". I bought the tune mainly because of this. I dont need my truck to go back its gear hunting....

The last auto I had, I learned how much throttle to give at what load to control shifting. I knew letting up slightly and when could let the truck shift or giving a little more could hold the gear. That truck also had a throttle cable and 3 spd w/od.

This truck is really hard to that same thing.

@OVTune can you explain in simple terms what tables would not be used if learning is completely turned off? What is lost?
