Based on the logic toyota is using for this truck its almost like they were thinking ahead to a 8 or 10 speed transmission, where this type of shifting make sense. With the 6th speed really being more like a 5 speed with an extra OD tacked on it doesn't make sense. For the most part a lot of driving conditions it does an OK job, but if you get into the edge conditions, its derpy AF. Also the highway mannerisms is pretty bad with the throttle limits that cause 6-5-4 downshifts constantly. I think its probably most frustrating for people that daily it in those edge conditions that cause the transmission to loose it mind. For me probably 60-80% of my daily driving conditions its fine post TSB, but there is still those times I'm like wtf is this thing doing!

I've got 4.88 Gears, have had all tsb updates to date. The last one is definitely the best. But I can tell it is not as good as it was when they first did it. I do have a 6" lift, 285 75 17 Nitto Ridge Grapplers. But even with the 4.88's, highway speeds above 70 still suck unless completely flat and no wind at all. Frustrating when giving just a little bit of extra pedal to maintain speed, needs to downshift. Gas mileage sucks anything much over 60 miles per hour. So basically highway driving still not good. My 2011 definitely much much better on the highway! Frustrating! Waiting for 1:05 patiently! Happy Thanksgiving everyone! :)

pulled the trigger on OVtune today for my 17. looking forward to it! One of the most annoying things in this truck is the throttle response lag, hopefully this improves that.

Just read through that blog post and all I can say is WOW! @OVTune at this point is it easier for you to just completely re-write the entire shift schedule in the ECU, instead of modifying how Toyota did it? Or is that basically what you're doing?

This line here: "No longer will the ECU automatically drop a gear or two when you floor it, in any gear." is under the section about S mode gear lock, so is that specific to S mode gear locking, or also integrated into normal D mode? I understand how the gear lock works, you'll have to manually shift it (which is badass). When driving in D mode, I like how the truck will shift directly from 5th to 3rd if you're cruising along at 55mph and floor it to get going. It will skip 4th, eliminating a shift, which makes the double downshift extremely fast and seamless. Hoping this doesn't go away at all.
