I've never had issues with my truck maintaing those speeds at that rpm range and can actually pick up speed with a little more throttle so i would definitely prefer that, not to mention the great mpgs you can get in that rpm range and speed.

My main issue with is at 45-50 mph when I start to ease in to the throttle the truck starts stumbling and I have to make it downshift to accelerate then it's going to fast.

It's fine till it comes up to temperature. Then it locks in the torque converter in 5th I believe. It don't do it all the time.

I like having this feature, I do this a lot on my daily and get good gas millage by doing so. Stock though I've seen cases where I want to pre-press the gas to cause a downshift before I loose momentum.

On what tune, what ecu version? Your symptom is the exact outlined symptom in the TSB.

And from more logs, valve timing changes etc I see why toyota lowered intake valve advance on the TSB. The stumble is caused from huge knock spikes where the truck is at peak VVT advance. I think I mentioned it before

There's really only one piece of 1.05 left we are really working on to get it released, and it's engine load calculations. The ECU calculates ridiculous amounts of load for actual throttle position. Small throttle angles still create high load conditions.

i see it while driving my MT. the requested load corresponds partly to throttle position, then the effects of that follow later based on all the other things. to smooth out the VVT surge I've actually been playing with the throttle position before i want VVT to see if i can modulate its arrival ahead of time. talk able thinking too much! eesh!

and yes, btw, i can mostly modulate the smoothness of the VVT surge by doing this. but it's not always reality while driving.

I had tab 0062 done. It still did it but not for about 1,000 miles. Did 1.04r 87 and it was fine for about 800 miles then started it again the other day. I just put it back on stock tune last night because it's due for 10,000 mile service here after christmas. It also does it slightly on the highway at 70mph when trying to climb a slight hill. Had toyota and there engineers look at it. They said they couldn't get it to do it.

And to be honest with you. You and 1.05 are my last hope for this truck. I love it , but I'm so irritated with this stumbling shit. Just when I think it's gone it comes back.

So, I finally tried to download techstream today. I followed the instructions here http://blog.obdii365.com/2017/09/18/install-toyota-techstream-12-02-024-on-windows-7/ and I got to step 4 where you are supposed to "register techstream" and I get this screen where in the video it just opens right up. Any help would be appreciated.

Alright, I got past that screen. Now I just can't get the updater to populate. I install it, then can't find it anywhere on my computer.

    update.jpg

If I ignore that one, I get these errors.

    error.jpg
This is what I get when I hit "connect to vehicle" in techstream.

    error2.jpg
This is what I get when I try to open the TSB to flash.

How much of a difference will 1.05 make pulling a trailer?

With 4.88 gears I can now cruise 45mph in 5th gear at about 1500rpm and it's a sweet spot for my mpgs.

Are you using the tactrix cable? There’s a drop down to change the interface to the tactrix adapter. Do that and you should be set.

It's already a big difference if you run the 91 tune. More torque down low and better shifting. You can see my camper in my avatar pic. 4200 lbs.

I don't think anybody has problems with that. It's just that when I start to dip into the gas to accelerate or the there's a rise in the road, I want it either to maintain that speed with a tiny bit of extra gas or have a downshift. As it is, it's more than "what feels natural in every other vehicle" extra gas followed by lugging and then abrupt downshift and too much noise, too much speed.

My opinion has always been, the downshift threshold is too high for the output of the engine. It's always too much gas, not enough speed followed by too much noise and too much speed.
