I don’t think the main point is that it’s at 1100 rpm, it’s that it can be at 1100 rpm and still make power and be responsive unlike being a dead fish <2000 rpm like the stock tune.

All the shift points are customizable with custom tunes soooo… that’s always an option…

....or like the maybe using the ECT button if you don't want 5th at that speed?

If there's one thing I've remembered driving stick again, it's that if the engine is tuned correctly you don't need to "chug", the engine will just smoothly, but steadily, accelerate. Isn't that something everyone wants?

Ok, I'm new here and I want to do the OV Tune but I have a couple questions. Will this work for the 2019 also? If I purchase 1.04, will I then have to pay for 1.05 when it releases? Sorry for the newb questions.

Exactly, my truck responds like this just driving to work. Bog - power - shift - bog - power - shift.

It will work for 2019s once Mat releases a tune version for that.
You buy the tune, not a specific file. In other words, you buy it once and all updates are free.
If you buy now, you'll be ready when 1.05 drops.
I don't think there's a 1.04R 2019 file available right now, so you'll be waiting for 1.05 after you pull the trigger.. and no, you won't pay for it again.

Isn't the 2019 ECM the same as the 2018 (04A71)? If they didn't change it for '19 then the '18 tunes should work. '16 and '17 have a different ECM than the '18.

2019 ECUs are new, different than 18s.

30 mile commute this morning on the highway, zero 4th gear downshift. I'd like to have a few independent tests for anyone who does a lot of highway driving

I drive a ton of highway, always right on that 5th 4th line. Happy to help out as this is my main complaint on this truck.

I'm doing a 24 mile almost all interstate commute each morning and afternoon M-F. I have latest TSB/1.04R and logging capability with tractix/laptop. Also have access to 87/89/91/93 Octane!

I tell ya what. I'm way more impressed than I thought I'd be with this latest TSB.
    Looking forward to 1.04R.

Works the same for me. Yes, S mode is a gear limiter, not a manual override, but putting the truck into S mode does fix this particular issue. OVTune mentioned a few times that these transmissions have separate shift profiles for all the different permutations of D, S, ECT, 2wd, and 4wd hi/lo. Even if the shift tables themselves are identical between D and S, popping the truck into S5 likely clears any memory the ECU had of the short term conditions that made it want to hang onto 4th in the first place. All the ECU knows after you switch modes is, "Hey, I don't know why, but I'm in 4th right now, and my tables tell me I should be in 5th." So it shifts into 5th.

Cruise control exhibits the same behavior, only worse - running 75-80 into a headwind on cruise, I've had the truck insist that it needs 5k rpms in 3rd gear. Only way to force an upshift is to turn cruise off and use my foot to maintain that same speed. Then it's perfectly happy in 5th. Can't wait for 1.05!
