Based on what mat has written and my experience with low rpm high load (hearing knock), These engines aren’t going to last 150k+.

Probably good to jump ship while you can.

Probably going to be a large lawsuit due to bottom-end failures or crank assemblies failing.

It’s becoming quite clear to me that this engine was designed for two purposes- 1) turbo charging and 2) high octane Natually aspirated applications (Lexus sedans).

Looks like Toyota just said fu** it, and just detuned This engine for the Tacoma and didn’t even fully test it.

    What a joke.

??? buying the tune, and selling for extra $$$? I must be misunderstanding. At best, you're out about $400 because the tune license doesn't transfer. Cobb on the other hand... I bought mine used, used it for a year, and sold it for $35 more and that covered shipping. License goes with the handheld on those.

<edit> Ah.... probably trying to recover a few dollars since the TSB gets you closer to the tune.

You can buy just the tactrix cable from another source instead of buying the tuning package. Then use said cable to flash the TSB then try to resell in this thread since they don’t have enough posts for B/S/T posts. That’s what I was referring to.

I must have misinterpreted, I thought they were selling their dongle kits after jumping ship.

I just cannot :censored::censored::censored: stand the shift dance this thing does, even on flat-ass road. I think I could live with any other problems.

How much experience do you have wtih this motor? Curious why you think this motor Is so bad. Plus, it you read Matt's post, he said, while there is some low end detonation, the ECU makes up for this with timing adjustments. These motors have been tested and are very reliable, hence why they have been used for many years in other Toyota vehicles.

Check it out - so this thing's definitely gonna blow up cus there's no turbo on it. Oh, and you can only run 93 on expensive Toyotas with an L on them.

Sounds accurate. Everybody trade your shit in right now before you all win a lawsuit.

I’ve been looking at raptors all week. Am on the edge with this truck. Please please drop this tune asap as there are only a handful leadfoot raptors left out there. Really need to know if this tune fixes this truck. I really would prefer to keep the Tacoma if this tune is a good as Matt is saying!

I have one in my sienna, which is rock solid, and feels great.

And I have one in my 2017 Tacoma which feels gutless, drives funky and frustrates me.
It got better after TSB (I have a MT), but seems like it’s going back to the wrong direction after 2000 miles.

I have a 17 sienna, motor feels about the same as my Tacoma, the only redeming part is the 8 speed transmission that makes it work. You still have to rev it out to get anywhere, that’s why I always drive it with ect on, wife hates that, cause it only gets about 17 mpg every time i drive.

Toyota quality ain’t what it used to be.

I can understand getting Toyota’s boring cars and sacrificing fun for reliability. Now, you get gutless vehicles and are unreliable when you buy a toyota.

Might as well buy a Ford
