i understand the explanation but when the truck is seeing load and accelerating, why would it upshift, then realize it shouldn't, then downshift, then upshift etc? that's not normal behavior nor unique to my truck.

i also can tell the difference between locking the converter and unlocking. for me, the truck feels like it's shifting but never locking the converter. it just shifts 3 > 4 > 5 and the converter never locks. then downshifts and locks, then upshifts, etc. I'm glad this can be reversed but this is the behavior folks cried about from day one with the stock tune just at higher speeds. now you guys like it at slightly lower speeds. WTF?

i also don't get folks that want 'coasting' when you let off the gas. just because a few of you are whining about it, doesn't make you the majority. i personally want engine braking and most any auto enthusiast prefers engine braking to some degree when off the gas vs just coasting. DFCO has been in modern vehicles for years and actually saves gas and provides that mild engine braking. If anything should be tweaked is maybe at what rpm dfco turns off like 1000 or 1200 rpm range. DFCO also helps cool the cylinder heads since there is no actual engine firing when off the gas.

no wonder the tune is all over the place. the feedback mat gets is just beyond nuts and at such extremes.

    ^^^^^^^^ this

Drive your trucks and let things settle out. THEN see how you like it.

DFCO doesn’t provide engine braking. When it kicks in, the truck feels like you are in neutral. Ask any of the MT guys

Just to clarify my position; I’m one of the ones that mentioned the dance. Apparently that’s automatically perceived as being a “complaint”

I couldn’t care less which way it is. I just mentioned it, not realizing it had already been explained.

IMO, tuning for mpg seems foolish if it means sacrificing drivability. Changing ECT to an ECO button seems like a good option.
I had the SSP before OVT and really liked the shift parameters. I would prefer that 6th gear not be available until after 55mph. I don’t expect Mat to make this change since I can do it myself with S5.

There are eight driving modes to use in our trucks:
    D w/o ECT
    D w/ ECT
    S4 w/o ECT
    S4 w/ ECT
    S5 w/o ECT
    S5 w/ ECT
    S6 w/o ECT
    S6 w/ ECT

Surely there’s an option for everyone.

Its because everyone has different terms and understanding of those terms. Its getting convoluted. For me, the only time I engine brake is going down hill. I put it in S Mode, cap it at 4 and that doesn't let me truck go faster then 70. I never use the brakes. That is my definition of Engine Braking. Again, for me, coasting is when I let off the gas and let the car roll to a stop, generally on flat ground. I like the truck to coast to a stop when I am in city traffic and I let off the brake coming to a stop light.

Since the terms have never been defined I can almost guarantee multiple people will tell me my definitions of both of those terms are wrong. Maybe they are... maybe they aren't but I keep seeing people use the same terms to describe opposite functions.

I'm sure this tune will continue to evolve over the next few months as it is apparent there are "growing pains" with 1.05, and I think the feedback everyone is providing is not complaining but honest issues with how the tune is behaving and will obviously help Mat fine tune 1.05 to get it where
it will be the best tune this truck has ever had.....just not there yet, but huge thanks to Mat for all is hard work and making our Tacos the best they can be!

I wish the engine had a smoother power curve, 1st seems to be get going ok, then push you back, then lets off, then back, then the change the 2nd. Why can't you just be smooth, engine?!

Starting to feel like a second class citizen with my "dongle less" setup. Pretty sure the money I paid was just as worth as those that maybe purchased a little early. Would've been nice driving with 1.05 - holiday round trip TX>CA>TX. Oh well :bored:

dongle here, in it since the the first version. Many haven't not tried the new tune yet, has
nothing to do with dongle version. Many ecu versions out there and I believe only 2 of those
have seen 1.05. I would guess it'll be another week before he's happy with the tweaking he's
doing and then release it to all versions.

Same here... Dongle version ordered at Labor Day sale in 2017. Version 1.01b was hot hot hot stuff back then, and that's the version I wanted. I begged and pleaded, but v1.02 was the first version I ever actually got my hands on. As of today my ECU is still at 04B02. I tried to get the dealer to update to 04B03 and they wouldn't. I haven't bothered with 04B04. When v1.05 becomes available to me I'll download it... but I'll probably still continue to run v1.03(91) like I currently do for at least a few weeks, while watching for more feedback from the masses . . . :spy:

Please consider releasing the next update on all platforms and ECUs simultaneously. This would allow those that are happy with the tune to move on and not worry about how the nit-picking might affect them.

same here man except 04b03, still rockin 1.03 and no issues at all. As soon as 1.05
drops I'm asking for the ect+1.05 tune, the always on ect mod I bought stopped working
and rather than pulling the dash apart again - some of that plastic is just going to crack
and then I'd be really pissed
    - I'll just get it as part of the tune and be good to go.

I tried 1.04 for a couple days only, went right back to 03, after a few hundred miles the
tip in(loved the aggressiveness) mellowed out a bit, just a bit. At this point, I'm in no real
    hurry for 1.05.

I know what you're trying to say, maybe the words got jumbled at the MMI.
DFCO - Full lift, injectors off = stronger engine braking. The problem is when you decelerate down to ~1300, the injectors come back on and it feels like you just launched two plugs. We all suspected that Atkinson "mode" was partially to blame, as you are in a very low load scenario. Mat's blog comments support this. I for one am looking forward to more consistent engine braking.
