The 02 truck would flash back to stock 02 calibration and 04, the stock 04 calibration.

I bought the tune for more power/performance, getting rid of the off the line bog as Frank mentioned was a bonus.

I got it mostly for drivability and a little extra power never hurts.

Using the same "stock" file from OVtuned?

If you can make a backup of your ECU then later flash that back in then great.

The stock file you receive is the exact same file that’s on your stock ecu. Toyota doesn’t custom tune their vehicles

The current 4.2 instructions (p1) include a step where you use the software to read your current calibration file#, and then send it to Mat. He would then send you back the tune files, along with the stock file that matched your calibration #. The stock file should have a suffix that matches your "stock" calibration (OB04, etc..) I'm not sure if this step is still required since he's giving us access to the tune via flash manager, but even if you can't extract the current stock tune, you can definitely read it and request a copy from Mat to save before you load the new tune. Also, when flashing back to stock, you're not picking a file that says "stock". You're picking a file that will contain your original calibration number. This way, you will know exactly what you are flashing. If I have this wrong, I'm sure someone will chime in;)

You can read your ecu and write it back. but its not that important because as mentioned below, the tunes are the same.

Are you sure about that? I was under the impression that once an ECU is flashed to 04 (1.05 incorporates 04), that it could not be flashed back to a pre 04
    calibration....or did I miss something?

That is still true. But Mat has released his tune for various calibration id's in the past. So one can assume that if a truck flashes 1.05 and is on 04B02, that "going back to stock" would still be 04B02. This will of course be known real soon when Mat gives all yall with non-04b04 calibration ids the tune.

Once you are on 04B04, you cant go back to anything lower. So these trucks's stock tune would be 04B04.

That good feedback - but what mpg would you have gotten before? How much of an improvement is 17mpg?

I get 17.5 -18 now without even trying. Of course the faster you go the worse the mileage is simply because of RPM. I am around 2300RPM at 72 MPH.

Cool, but how much of an improvement is that?

Went from 16.5-17.5 to 17.5-18 and can prolly get upwards to 20 if I hyper mile. I haven't just been driving it to see what would happen.

Has anyone used the gear lock yet? That’s the only thing I’m waiting for. I’d pay the 700 or whatever it was just for that feature. :D
