To a degree, the software already does this. You cannot just flash any random file to the ECU, only one that matches to your Trucks ID.
However..how do you fix the issue of people not knowing what their ECU version is, to even select the correct file, when it's outlined in my instructions.
I am well aware that the current process is not ideal, it needs work. I do appreciate the feedback. I am not a genius software developer.

I have a full time job. That being said if he wants to talk about ideas and depending on what he actually needs help with and how much time it would require to build... sure. I make a living solving these problems for developers. At a minimum I would talk to him if he wanted a chat.

So you are telling me legit feedback about a process that makes an end users life more difficult doesnt belong in this forum but the constant other bullshit that goes on in here is? Come on now...

The user should be able to say they have a 2017 Tacoma OR MT, your software then pulls down the most recent files for that ECU. Then have the software check the ECU when it gets plugged in before the user can do anything. Force a fetch of the data you need to make a good decision. Then once you know what is installed you know what bins you can flash. Obviously im spit balling here but I hope that kinda gets the point across. What I assume you want to avoid is requiring an internet connection during the flash process which means you need to store some type of meta data about all the trucks ECU versions, and what files support what versions.

If you want to talk, PM me or email me. Ill gladly spend some time bouncing ideas with you.

I get what you're going for, and it's not a terrible idea, but ....... I'm not retarded like some people. I'm capable of basic reading comprehension and don't want to have to sit there waiting for an even longer period of time while it reads my ECU to confirm that I haven't done something stupid. If somebody screws up their truck because they can't read and comprehend the very clear instructions, which already include you pulling ECU data to learn your ECU version, well that's their problem and the solution isn't to punish me with a longer flash time.

Not calling you an idiot. Im calling you a human. We all make mistakes and click on things we didnt mean to click on. A 10 seconds delay to read metadata to stop silly issues really isnt a big deal. I do not mean pulling the whole rom down. I mean getting the ECU hardware ID/info off of the ECU before flashing.

The thing is the only people who *could* even make a mistake is dongle users. Who have been with the process now for more than a year. Everyone else is using dongle-less software which is mistake proof.
You cannot flash anything except 100% matched files to your truck and system ID. You cannot even get those files from anyone but us. You can try for days to flash anything else it will fail or not accept the file.

The System ID process is ... I don't know how much more simple it can get.

Im a Site Reliability Engineer. I help devs deliver code that is reliable and performant.

Ok cool thats how it should be. Do you plan on forcing dongle users over to be dongleless?

Do you have a list of users that are dongles? You should make a poll and email everyone to get their opinion, just a simple Yes or No. Getting down to one flashing architecture and file deployment method will most likely help your life out greatly.

Edit: Removing the lock to a single computer could also be a large item. Use license key activation or a user account to activate a new computer and remove the old. Services exist for this where you just use their library to implement the feature.

Yes. If everyone was forced to use a dongle, then Mat would only have to upload the tune files ONCE and all users could download them at their convenience.

The 10-minute idle is to let the computer settle on the massively complex idle trim Toyota put in, so that when you drive the engine can focus on settling everything else like the fuel trims, etc...at least that's the idea

I flashed to 1.05 91 this morning and let it idle for 15 mins. Went for a small test drive, and it seems a lot better. Going to log some more miles before I post any kind of review.

This is exactly how the Edge tuner worked on my F150. Surely, that must be the end game.. One device that stores all tunes, extracts and stores your vehicle tune and only provides the appropriate tuning options.

@OVTune have you thought about adding a wiki to your website? Perhaps a few of the more active members could curate it. A blend of FAQ/current information.

Same issue with my 2016. Ran significantly better after the dealer checked it and discovered it was .5 quart low. Same issue on my dads 2010. He had a clunk coming to a stop and dealer quoted something ridiculous to replace the drive shaft. Did a drain and fill and never had the issue again.

it seems a lot of people just assume that everything was perfect from the factory but unfortunately that hasn't been the case especially with some of these trucks.

I would HIGHLY recommend anyone with an auto check their transmission is filled to spec. You can have the the dealer do it, or do it yourself. It's not that hard and only costs a few dollars in fluid. There are so many weird issues people have that are easily fixed with an extra .5 to 2 quarts of fluid.

Mine did this today but idle only went up to 1,100 for about 10 seconds. Caught me off guard though being there was traffic coming. I've had it do the same thing on 1.04r though. I'm not really concerned about it. Being that I'm only about 100 miles in to the new tune. It may work itself out. I think it has something to do with the direct injector cleaning cycle.
