I'm pretty happy with 1.05 so far 87 stock truck.

TSB was OK in most driving conditions but horrible in others (Mainly 40 or under in hilly areas and highways)
1.04R was better driveability than TSB in most conditions, but it seemed at the cost of MPG vs stock highway wasn't much improved.
1.05 has way better driveability in all conditions with the same or better MPG than stock, highway driving greatly improved.

The thing I think matt really dialed in was the "overshooting" where you downshifted to much and took off like a rocket. There was too much throttle limit in the higher gears. Thus I was kinda used to feeling 3k+ rpm downshifts which doesn't really happen anymore.

I guess the thing is that really the truck doesn't learn your habits you learn the trucks habits, then 1.05 is a relearning. The bottom line is that when you drive on the edge of a shift threshold its gonna bounce between gears. Toyota in the stock tune tried to tackle that with an over complicated algorithm that actually made the problem worse. Downshifts and Upshifts are fine, smooth and predicable. I can say much for modified trucks though or before 1.04R.

I think with 1.05 is to stop looking at the RPMS etc and focus on how the truck feels and how its responding. Unfortunately 1.05 took a long time leading to a lot of hype and over zealous expectations.

It only confirms some people will never truly be happy. Shifts too low, shifts too high, holds gear too long, I doesn't hold long enough.

A lot of work, a lot of thought, and a lot of public feedback went into making 1.05.
1.05s goal was to improve response below 2000 rpm, clean up tables, improve shifting and improve highway driving. I feel we have delivered this.

This is why I believe having some options in shift mapping (that don't require a custom request) similar to the old "abc" versions on an older release would be valuable to help cater to the masses who all have different needs. Much of this is driven by driving styles or environments. If, for example, I lived in a rural area or did the majority of my driving on the open highway I believe 1.05 performs very well. Living in the city, I found the low speed surging in D or R concerning, still experienced some shift flare, and when needing to navigate around traffic in the city on the freeway it was hard to get it to downshift to 4th when I actually needed it to after which it downshifted to 3rd and overshot a couple of times.

I'm one of your biggest fans and I truly believe you are one of the best things to happen to this community in quite some time. Your work is why I didn't trade my truck back in 2017 and I will continue to endorse your skills and product - but as of now, for my truck, the TSB is more predictable and less "buggy" feeling around town at a slight expense of highway driving. While throttle, smoothness of shifting (generally speaking) and power were certainly improved in 1.05, after about 1/2 tank on 1.05/93 I flashed back to TSB. It's not fast, but it doesn't do anything weird aside from a single cold clunk on stopping in the morning.

True, there are some who simply can never be satisfied and will complain about anything, but there are folks in the thread calling out a few consistent themes of undesirable characteristics in the tune and all should not be completely discounted nor, do I believe, pushed to a custom tune path that will likely be months-long given the success and volume of customers you have now. some of this is simply different trucks behaving differently despite having the same code - which could also build the case for "options" in the OTS variety vs. custom

Considering trying the 87 tune even though I run 93 octane to see if it lessens the surging and whatnot but otherwise I'll be back on the TSB until either new shift maps are offered or custom tuning opens up.

I have a positive outlook for the future of tuning this truck. The TSB does work well for some, and unwell for others. (Seems to be a common theme on anything with this truck).

I've been cooking up some other things, concepts for the future with altering tables, creating our own tables, etc inside the ecu. So it's not the end. Right now though the focus is implementing a form of speed density for boost, because for some trucks the only fix is forced air.

Like running a sprint booster, there are a few 2D tables in the ECU I can easily spoof to make the ecu request more throttle without knowing it. But this messes up load, which in turn messes with ignition, etc. Sure the truck will still run and drive fine, but it ends up using other sections of tables where it shouldn't. Abnormal load.

Still, it's nice to know the majority of people are still happy with 1.05 and the MPG reports I get are quite nice. That was a huge goal for us, seeing real world, measurable, sustainable MPG improvements.

Just to be clear, I wasn't inferring that you were being the "squeaky wheel". More that, others who apparently don't commute. I was agreeing with you and should have 'liked' your post. Sorry for any misunderstanding.

Mat when you get time could you update the first post in this thread or a blog on your website outlining the differences between the three 1.05 octane tunes and what to expect from each. This may clear up some of the confussion and direct people to the tune that fits their needs best.

    No.
MT release will happen I promise! I hate to put MT behind but I hope everyone understands why. It's a 50:1 ratio easily and if there are AT issues it will just get messier.

I 100 percent agree with this. Having access to different versions of 1.05 (if made) with different shift maps will greatly satisfy 90 percent of the AT owners guaranteed.

I think some of us are concerned that there doesn't appear to be an end to the AT issues..

While it does seem that most everyone has seen some kind of improvement and "happy", I think many of the "complaints" are centered around what I have highlighted by making it bold.

Setting expectations. Of the items listed here as goals, only "improve shifting" was well communicated at the outset. Improve highway driving? At the expense of what? Improve MPG? How did this get to be a goal? It seems like those two both led to the thing some users are less than happy about; 4-5-6 behavior.

I would ask that you please tell us up front what the design goals are for the turbo(s). Put it on post 1 and your blog. Those goals can and may need to change over time. Fine. Revise, if needed and let customers respond to the goal (early) instead of the result (later).

I think many are very happily surprised with regard to the mpg they are getting on 1.05. Some others are less happy due to what makes that possible (low rpm, early shifting, little/no engine braking).

    I vote for no surprises....
