I think in regards to custom tuning, some of the users were suggesting a few different shift maps as custom options. That way not every single user would have to be addressed individually and tweaked for their needs. Such as a ticket comes in and says it shifts at too low of speeds. Here is shift map B and tell them its custom. I don't know.

I have had a few areas where it seems to fall on its face at around 35 or so after a shift. I think my pedal pressure is not enough yet to overcome that. I have to relearn all of the nuances. I still only have 100 miles on it. I can easily maintain 80 on the interstate through slight elevation changes that I call hills. Was impossible prior to the tune. I really need to get some extended driving.

Complaining is OK, it's helpful at times!. But I think there is a difference between complaining and echoing the same thing again and again while totally ignoring that custom tuning is REQUIRED for some trucks.

I agree with you. I went with 255/75/17 (32”) that is very light (39lbs) over my previous 265/75/16 (31.5”) (46lbs) tires and I can tell that the .5” taller tire actually changed the rpm band noticeably which ultimately affected how the tune portrays rpm based shifting and what not. I’d rather have a better rpm band than tire height (+ .5”) which is why I will go back to 265/70/17 (31.5”) after these tires wear out.

Just something to consider for those with taller or wider and taller tires. These trucks are picky as hell and any change in tire variance can make the truck behave differently because the tune is compromising for the change in tire diameter and weight.

Seeing this now I realize I will never put 33’s on this truck, even skinnies. One size up from stock is good enough and has the best performance for me when paired with lift, armor, etc.

From my point of view after Matts last post, the tune for 1.05 auto's is done. Anyone wanting any modifications needs to grab a cup O joe and wait for custom tuning. Now he can move on to the M/T's and fine tune any bugs that may be unique to the M/T version of 1.05 before opening up the floodgates for custom tunes...

This is exactly correct, but I think there is some refusal to accept it.
An endless stream of modified public release 1.05s is not happening.

Was the learning locked out of 1.05? I seem to recall Mat saying that he had figured out how to turn it off.

But, when I first tuned to 1.05 v2, I noticed a pretty significant hang in 4th -> 5th. However, now, it is much less noticeable. Perhaps learning is still happening. Perhaps I learned to drive differently. Perhaps ECT changes things enough that it's less obvious.

In either case, I probably wouldn't have opened a ticket with how it is now.

@OVTune, I just flashed my 2018 Off Road AT with the 87 octane 1.05 tune this morning, so I've only driven it on my 16 mile work commute so far. Let me say however that the improvement is READILY apparent! Wow! It's literally like driving a different, and vastly improved, Taco!! Throttle response is so much better and shifting is fantastic! Up until 3 weeks ago (when I had the truck flashed by my dealer with 89661-04K21) I'd been running with the 1.04 tune. My first impressions are that 1.05 is a huge step forward. Thanks a million Mat!!! I'm looking forward to getting a few more miles under my belt with 1.05, AND trying out the manual shifting ECT mode.

I've found over time that 1st to 2nd isn't as smooth as it was, it's a noticeable loss of momentum and drag forward once it hits 2nd. This is medium throttle trying to get up to speed reasonably quickly at 3k-4k rpm.

My feedback on 1.05: Does it fix all my issues with this truck? No, but it was unrealistic to expect it to in the first place, especially considering the huge range of vehicle setups Mat was trying to find a middle ground between. Is this the best the truck has driven since I got it? Yes, so far it's a huge improvement. I haven't paid much attention to RPMs, and I honesty don't know enough about vehicle mechanics to give an in depth review on the finer points like others, but I can say that it just "feels better", and even at 6,000+ elevation I'm noticing what appears to be a VERY good improvement to MPGs (I'm running essentially stock + 340lb topper and air bags, will be adding armor down the road). I think 1.05 is fantastic as a "baseline" tune. Any changes or tweaks I want in the future will be handled via custom tuning fairly easily I think.

I'm one of the quiet lurkers who absolutely loves this tune. It really needed a few hundred miles to settle in but wow, it just works. I can see where people who have run 1.03 and 1.04 who liked the aggressive behaviour of those tunes are kind of turned off by this, but for a base tune on a midsized truck, it drives properly and predictable. It never feels underpowered either. Even if I'm light on the thottle, it shifts earlier than im used to but it keeps accelerating at the same rate... It was weird at first because I was so used to the engine being so high in the revs. No complaints here though!

When I wanna feel that 1.03-ish pep, I just use ect and it moves! Using 91 btw.

New here. Traded an '07 Tundra for a Tacoma TRD Pro. Sadly, the Tacome shifts, well, less than satisfying compared to the Tundra.

Trying to catch up on the 1.05 release but the order page says 1.04. So what is actually shipping at the moment (with dongle)?

FWIW, I'm familiar with ECUTek Race ROM tunes (Dynotronics), data logging, customizations, on my Cosworth supercharged Miata. So, I appreciate all the effort OVTune puts in - I know there's hundreds of maps to manipulate.

That said, I'm curious about one thing - the octane-specific tune. The ECUTek tunes I'm running have on-demand selectable tunes (3-4 different modes) that default to 87, 89, 91 but you can have the tuner adjust any one, or all. For example, I have one with auto-blip disabled. They're selected with the cruise control buttons. Is something like that possible here?

This is not possible right now. What you're talking about with Ecutek RaceRom 4 Way map switching requires a lot of custom code in the ECU, and manipulation of the cruise control buttons for map switch selection. It's very, very complex code and not really something worthwhile on a platform like this. It's worthwhile on the Miata because a lot of people race the NC. (also because it's an easy way to ...cheat when you have to dyno test before getting on the track haha).
