Don't forget to factor in better gas mileage with better octane, when calculating out the long term costs. I don't have a ton of data yet, and it can be hard to capture with tons of variables (winter gas, weather, wind, driving habits), but I'm seeing 1-3 better mpg with 93 over 87.

Also, like others, my truck runs substantially better on 93 than it does on 87, on both stock tune and OVtune.

I'm actually seeing better mpg with 87 than 91...weird I know. If traffic doesn't stop me I can easily achieve 19-22mpg on 87

Mine also seems to run better on 87. I get around the same if not better on 87 as opposed to 92. Don't understand.

Hmm. Just curious, are yall switching the tune when you switch the octane? Or is all of the above with 87 tune?

Started with 87 octane when I first bought the truck. Averaged around 18-19 MPG, then with the anticipation of 1.05 being released started filling up with 92 octane. Only averaged around 16-17 MPG, same drive, nothing changed other than the gas. When 1.05 released I tuned with 91 octane file. Didn't notice any change in MPG from before tune, so I went back to 1.05 87 and also 87 octane fuel and now getting around 18-19 again. So for me the extra cost is not worth it.

Just flashed my truck. Really excited! Also dropped a KnN filter in, hope both make a difference. Stay tune!

A lot of these claimed "better mpg" seem a bit arbitrary. We need a more valid test to prove out these better mpg numbers (before and after).

For instance...I can get "better" fuel economy on a bone stock Tacoma one day vs another....purely based on how aggressive I am with the truck.

Very curious to see what we can come up with.

had a KN...took it out. Does nothing but let more dust in and can coat MAF sensors with that silly red oil over time...just saying. You can't beat a factory filter unless you go full headers, hi-flow cat, CAI, etc.

Had a KnN on my last Tacoma. Never had a problem. So we will see.

Wasn't sure if I was imagining it but I'm not....

The engine bogs on initial touch of throttle at a light, then takes off. Very very slight, but RPMs drop and then pick back up.

Great, send me an email for the logger and see if you can log it to verify. Otherwise not sure how this helps us fix any outstanding quirks....

In other news the turbo setup is off the truck while some changes are made. So I can do some more of my own logging on 1.05.

Gen 3 and Gen 2 are not the same. I had K&N on my Gen 2 - no issues. Not so on Gen 3. Hope it works out for you.

Many things different from the two different gens. The front end of the 3rd gen is 300 lbs heavier than the 2nd gen. Engine is different entirely

My last Tacoma was a 2000. So I’m not sure what Gen that is....1st Gen? Even if it throws a code, the mass air flow sensor is easy to clean. I still have to ome filter so I can always go back.

What's the current wait time for fulfilling your order? I'm sure Mat is quite busy.

thought it was a combination of the K&N CAI system (complete air box system install) with the oiled filter - increased velocity / flow of air through the CAI allowed oil from over saturated filter to foul the MAF. Caused rough RPM/Idle,... and some had codes thrown. Yes MAF is not too difficult to clean - just a PIA when it happens and something those who did the full install did not think would be an outcome of the mod. That is why I stuck with the dry filter.

Agreed - I have an AFE Pro Dry S filter, no issues noted.
