Noob question here: after installing this tuner, will it not be necessary to get my TSB done?

 

you need to go get your truck updated to the lasted "03" calibration before doing the tune.

Bought my truck May 2017 & haven't even been back to the dealer

 

If bought in May (depending on when your truck was built) it may already have the latest update. One way to check would be if you can use a OBD2 device like ELM or Carista or something and it can show you the calibration version - the one ending in 03 is the latest. I'd bet you're ok honestly but only one way to check.

OP has stated (if I recall correctly without rereading all of his posts..) that if you had the 01 version you HAVE to go get your truck updated. I believe he can tune if you have 02, but from my perspective I'd want him tuning on the latest Toyota calibration. Toyota DID make SOME improvements from 02 to 03 regarding the shifting and since there are limits to what we can do w/ shifting in the tune I'd want the latest from Toyota as a base to flash from... my $.02 and that's about all it's worth. OP is the bearer of knowledge here

Cool. He did mention that if you were on the 01 you had to go to Toyota but I suppose that didn't apply to the middle update

 

I'm still on version 2. Probably should reconsidered visiting the dealer for a update. @OVTune I wonder if version 3 makes any difference in drivability with the tune vs the version 2?
