So if I’ve got my tactrix cable plugged in (truck and laptop) and put in my vin and ECU + tune info (showing live Data) on new OVTune Logger V1.02 and start logging are these files saved anywhere or automatically sent to you Mat?

4 days ago ago while waiting for registration email I used OBDLink to count misfires to and from work, a 20 mile commute mostly at 80mph.

Morning = 60 degrees and clear skys, 5 minute warm up w/ 6 total misfires, 3 on startup and 3 while driving
Afternoon= 34 degrees and rain, 5 minute warm up w/ 22 total misfires throughout the drive home, had 3 on startup.

While waiting at the pharmacy 45 mins ago I got the registration email and went out to the parking lot, hotspotted my tablet to my phone for internet, and did the flash in the parking lot lol. Used techstream to reset the ECU and TCU before flashing the 04B03 93 base tune. Its raining like hell and there was a ton of traffic on the 10 mile ride home so I couldn't really do much more than "be traffic", but I could tell the changes were there on a few occasions. I can't wait for the tune to settle and for a nice day where I can open it up to see what its got. Zero misfires during the 10 min idle. knocked the cord loose while leaving the parking lot so no idea if there were any on the way home.

So, for your truck these were pre-tuned numbers?

Overall impression of 0B04 1.05 91base tune. Smooth and the way the Tacoma should've been originally. I'll go the entire tank with base tune and then try out performance tune at the next tank refill. Well worth the wait and price. :bananadance::):spending:

I would since it doesn't really affect anything and it takes less than 30 seconds to do.

Jut curious, if folks can't feel the misfires, why be concerned? I keep reading about all these misfire horror stories and think to myself - shit I am lucky as hell this is not happening to me, but maybe it is and i just don't know it - but either way, since my truck feels awesome and as smooth as a V6 can be, i am not concerned and don't plan to plug in a techstream anytime soon, because if it's misfiring, i don't want to know!

I never thought about misfires either until I began reading about it on TW.

Because I perceive my V6 to be as about as smooth running as it can be, I should be able to notice any marked rough idle when I flash the soon to be released 87 perf/gear lock tune. Or maybe it will appear to be just as smooth as the stock tune and no cause for concern.

You’re right. I don’t want to know either.

Out of curiosity (while waiting for the Performance tune...) Has anyone with with the misfire issue gone to the dealer and asked them why they are reading misfires on their trucks? (Assuming people are getting them with the Stock tune) If so, What explanation did Toyota give you?

My guess is the common dealership answer of: running as designed or unable to replicate the issue.

Well from what I’ve read it seems like you could fire up your truck, show them your phone and they could see the misfires. However, “As designed” sounds like the answer.

I have tracked my misfires over the last three days since flashing 1.05-93-performance. After flashing, I also used TechStream to reset all of the engine and transmission learning.

Each of these were during 20-25 mile trips around town, mixed highway and city, North Carolina weather, mostly stock 2019 TRD OR 04B30:
    1. 12 misfires
    2. 13 misfires
    3. 7 misfires
    4. 4 misfires
    5. 6 misfires
    6. 5 misfires
    7. 0 misfires
    8. 1 misfire

I went from getting almost 2 misfires per mile to almost none after ~140 miles.

These trucks really do change quite a bit once they "settle," so my only advice would be to see what happens after 100+ miles.

Depending on the severity of misfire, there could be unburned fuel entering catalytic converter, which get ignited in high temperatures. This could cause back pressure, and premature damage to the catalytic converter.

Again, having a few misfire during cold engine start isn't going to have noticeable impact on engine or catalytic converter longevity. But if you are having constant / regular misfires during normal operation, just because you can't feel it, doesn't mean it isn't doing harm overtime.

My point is, knowledge and information never hurt anyone. But it can drive you insane going down that rabbit hole :anonymous:
