He said in a previous post that he will look into it. Until then why don't you just install Techstream? You can also do a lot of other cool stuff with it.

The tune is really starting to frustrate me and it's not what I expected for $770.00.

There have been multiple tickets submitted because my truck does not run correctly with any tune or octane when I am at highway speeds. If I give it any more then a touch of throttle when the engine rpm's are between 1200-1700 the truck feels like it is going to shake apart. It shutters and bucks like something is going to let go. My truck is not the only one to experience this and it DOES NOT do it on the stock TSB tune. There have been multiple help desk tickets submitted and the logging software will not start logging, it gives me an error on opening.

After a $770.00 investment in my truck it's unfortunate that the stock tune runs better.

I cleared learned values from the engine and transmission (the transmission was unnecessary), so I can’t say weather the differences I felt were from the sensor or the clearing.

The only thing that stood out to me was the scratches on the sensor. I’ll try to get some photos today.

BTW, my truck is not on the recall list.

i like to put in a request for @OVTune. I'm on the 87 base 1.05 tune and when the truck is cold, the shiftpoints and throttle are spot on. When it warms up it changes to be more mellow. Can you create a tune instead of mpg and not quite as touchy as the performance tune, one that is in the middle? I really enjoy driving the truck cold until the tranny and engine warm up.

I have received your tickets and we are going as quickly as possible to get more information to make some sort of diagnosis. This is also happening on a few of the 04B30 ECUs (regardless of tune or not). It's not something we have completely pin-pointed yet as to why it is happening. But it IS being worked on.

We have narrowed it down though to two possible causes and are testing with a truck that has the exact issue (even with stock tune).

Just so that you're aware, we are fully aware of this issue and although we haven't replied to everyones tickets (about 5 people with exact same issue) we are working on it.

If you would like to test out what we are currently working on just let me know

The crankshaft position sensor. There’s a recall for some trucks.

Many who are not on the recall list that have replaced them on their own have experienced positive results. @bshammer0 probably stands out the most. My truck had bad misfires. 20+ was not uncommon. I had 38 the other day and it was less than a 5 mile drive. Last night... I had 1!! (after replacing)

Here’s my old sensor. There are noticeable scratches on the face of it.

Boy, I'd check the new one you installed in a few miles to see if it also gets scratched. If so, I'd yank that tranny and inspect that flywheel pick-up. Wonder if some Tacoma Flywheels didn't get inspected and are causing the problems on all the rigs that are having these random issues.

Its actually a reductor/reluctor? (not sure what its called) ring on the front of the crank behind the crank pulley.

Ah, I see. Well. I found a picture of it. Looks like you'd need to take the timing cover off to check it out. I'd still look at the new sensor for marks if it was me.

I'm considering swapping my CPS too or at least checking my current one. Those scratches look to contact marks which is not right.

Agreed on the source of the scratches.

Toyota, as far as the recall goes, claims that the sensors are failing because of grease being flung onto the sensor, which creates a reduction in the “gap” between the sensor face and the rotor. I’m calling BS.... clearly in my case, there was no gap with or without excess grease.

    From Toyota:
The V6 engine crankshaft timing rotor in the involved vehicles may have been produced with excessive anti-corrosion coating. This could cause the crankshaft position sensor to malfunction. If this occurs, the vehicle may display a Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL), run roughly, misfire, or in some instances, stall. A stalling condition while driving at higher speeds may increase the risk of a crash

My truck has this issue to. It did it stock, tsb and every 87 tune that I've tried. It's something with the trucks. Matt is working on it. Dudes a wizard, just give him some time.
