Only when gear locked. Matt already explained its the messed up shift logic from Toyota. He will fix it sometime this year

When in S gear lock it will down shift just fine if you manually intervene and select the lower gears.

You can select a higher gear to up shift but it won’t upshift unless RPM is high enough. 2200 sounds about right.

The way I’ve been using my gear lock is to limit the top gear to either 4 or 5 and allow the trans to auto upshift and manually intervene on the downshifts. I found that it was a bit jerky in 1st gear if I did the manual upshifts. That may change when I hook up my travel trailer and have the added weight resistance to counter the torque in the lower gear.

Off topic and this is to Mat hopefully he'll see this post.
I just bought a V6 2019 SXE Toyota. (looks badass) Do you have any plans in the future to add a tune for this car. It's my understanding that the engines are the same that is used in the Tacoma?

Not as similar as you think. Mat said he copy and pasted the tune from the Camry to his Tacoma and only saw a 5(?) horsepower gain which is a far cry from the camry’s 22 more horsepower over the Tacoma

Yeah but there is so much to be done for throttle response and shifting. Oh yeah a nice flat peak torque curve around 3000-4000 rpm.

I'm on 91 base and it is smooth . I like it! Have not ran 87 base for any comparison.

Been watching this since I got my truck and I’m ready for this truck to be more driveable.

Just placed my order. When do you think it will ship?

IDK if you are AT or MT, but the answer is 100% yes regardless. You will need to be patient with the ECU learning after flashing, and finding the tune that works for you best. In the end you will have a truck that Toyota should have given you off the lot.

I am a little confused between how the ECU versions work with the version of the tune after reading this thread. Seems you can run 1.05 on one ECU version, and 1.05 on a newer “TSB” ECU version with different results.

I have a 2017 TRD OR, AT. It is a dog at lower RPMs. Gear hunts on the highway. Power spike at ~3500rpm. I love this truck but the trans and power delivery is annoying.
