Without a subscription the software cannot go online and get any data. It is limited to the functions that are not based on a subscription. You will not be able to download any files for your truck.

While It may be possible to use it for flashing purposes, I would get some verification from Matt before you go try. It may not end well.

yeah definitely get the dealer to do it for free. You can't use techstream without a subscription, cheapest one is a 48 hour sub for $55. But the dealer owes you this update for free.

I am shocked that Toyota is giving anyone ANY hassle about getting their trucks firmware update it takes 15 freaking minutes and no special skills

holy crap I've been wondering how to say this. you just did.

yes i was planning to report that it seems it pulls wildly different maps unexpectedly.

i normally run it up to about 3k or more in first gear, and let out the clutch to 2nd as the revs fall. it's normal like that. but a few times today i played around and had a very aggressive sudden surge of VVT lower than i expected and it would have been traction loss on a wet road for sure.

mostly the VVT comes on much smoother than before. but there is something triggering it that's not the idea Mat is going for, i think.

Got my dongle today :broccoli: No issues at all reading the files, sent off to Matt!

After 35k miles on the stock tune, I'm really looking forward to throttle response improvement & more overall smoothness as @bshammer0 has mentioned.

Ok, I don't mean to sound confused but....!!!
When I go to the dealer to have my 2016 TRDOR with A/T bought in Jan 2016, and had the first TSB for the tranny flashed that Aug. for its 20,000 mi. Service
exactly what do o need to have done..to make sure I'm good for the install and what flash or flashes from mat should I be installing. Thanks for any clarity...

Matt is aware of it, but i'm not sure what he as done to correct it if anything yet. It would be nice if there was a way to put a global limit on how fast the VVT can change target angle. It seems to change 30 degrees in a fraction of a second. I took some logs of this happening as I can reliably reproduce it on demand. If there was a global limit of like 5-10 degrees/second it would definitely help mellow out the surge.

I notice the VVT return also when I let-off from a hard acceleration. It isn't just the 1-2 shift, it is present in just about any gear but far less noticeable.

since he can limit the number of interchanging maps, I'd think he can handle this issue. i guess my drive style isn't pushing this issue for me... it only happened with clarity once today. but that one time has me a bit concerned for low traction driving on road.
