I did, until I saw that its in all new vehicles. Plus my old taco didn't do it. Doubt toyota changed the flywheel design to be heavier for a weaker engine.

When I go to run pcmflash, it will identify, but it will not read the truck........Going to start going through the many pages of this thread for an answer, maybe those of you who are on your 20th time can chime in.

Truck is in on, not running, and no issue of connection with the wires. Should the obdII unit be flashing like a light show?

Make sure any anti-virus, Spyware protection, or other monitoring software is disabled. My kit did not come with a USB cable and the first one I tried was flakey. Try another cable.

If all else fails try the standard troubleshooting step of rebooting your computer and running as administrator(although it should not be necessary).

I get your post, I really do. Been Running OV Tune since Just after the alpha...I think I was order #1859. The truck runs much smoother, poer comes on sooner than before. I completely agree in the fact that this truck should have been tuned like this from the factory. I'm running 285's a and on a Icon 3" lift with a catback an Afe intake an MRBP catback. But in the end, it's your truck and you choice.....
I completely agree. My review on 1.02 mirrors yours with about 150 miles....
It will get even better as it learns.....if you doubt making this truck
drive like it should've from the start don't buy it.
OvTune has already demonstrated his ability to mend toyotas inability to
Finish what they chose not to.

Not sure if they are incapable..I bet Toyota ECU programmers could have made this thing run like a bat out of hell if they wanted to. I think it comes down to what specifications/criteria they have to meet and make the truck drive To those standards . But, alas we have a savior amongst us, so no more frustration when driving!

I imagine it was a time/budgetary constraint. The engineers probably said something like "yes, this engine is very similar to what we have used in our other vehicles and some of the ECU data can be transferred, but this engine is not identical and there will be some extra work that needs to be done." Big wigs/upper management/pencil pushers probably heard "The ECU software is close enough to what we have already developed for our other vehicles and we won't need to put much time or effort into it."

This translates to there not being enough time allotted to developing the maps for this truck and the engineers scrambling to put something together that sort-of works. Maybe i'm wrong but as a controls engineer I've had this conversation more than once. Even though the machine I am supposed to be working on is "exactly the same" as seen by those not familiar with my job, there are inevitably differences that are non-trivial to consider and work around.

Had to go home as it seems to only work on a buddies laptop.

Could it be because it's a PRO and there's a slight chance of it being different? I know not likely.

Pro or not should make no difference the ECU is the same. Win-Blows can be quirky. I don't have a good answer for you unfortunately. Were you able to get it to flash on your buddy's computer?

Does anyone have a real time AFR/misfire/knock app for their phone? I have Torque pro but haven't played enough with it, curious if anyone has one they like.

A heavier rotating mass is actually better at maintaining torque. I am personally planning to purchase a heavier flywheel for my truck to assist with low speed operation. URD has them on there website already. I believe the stock flywheel is 29 lbs. URD flywheel is close to 40 lbs if my memory serves me correctly.

As for the rev hang there is an easy solution for that... Lift then shift.

Lift and shift:rofl: Do whatever makes you happy, I do it right now, but if possible I would rather have it like manual transmissions have been for decades.

Good to know on the heavier flywheel. I wont be purchasing one unless absolutely necessary. Which means if i ever get a supercharger, both clutch and flywheel are getting swapped out.

I have always run heavy mass flywheels on my trucks. Makes trail driving, towing and working around the farm much easier.

I agree with you that the rev hang is a useless slice of programming there only to make the tree huggers happy. However the lift and shift negates it.

Unlike some around here I actually use my truck as a truck. There is typically barb wire and T-post in the bed. It regularly hauls cattle feed, mineral/salt blocks and lots of steel for my side business as a fabricator. I tow with it almost daily. Summer time it gets to haul our hay bailer, wheel rake and my car hauler with my 3000 ford tractor on it from the main frame to our lease property. It has my welding trailer tied to it 2-3 days a week. I haul livestock to the sale and the vet with it in my 16' cattle trailer. It has also seen several thousand miles of off roading in Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, our 210 acre farm and 50 acre lease property in East Texas.
