Try the 93 base tune. Seems like a lot like base tunes better than the Performance ones.

But I like the power band in the performance tune. 93 is easily accessible for me here. Unlike most guys I read about here I don’t do a whole lot of towing or long distance highway.... But I do a lot of driving and being able to get out of someone’s way is a plus. When this thing is chugging at 1k rpms it’s irritating, especially when you hit 35-40mph and the rpms just drop. The initial throttle response is okay in normal drive but not in ECT mode which I always have to hit once i pull onto the main rd from a side street to keep it from jumping into “overdrive” in a sense.

But should you have to keep it in S4? I mean I know originally the tune was to be used for fixing the shifting issues the trucks were having and for gas mileage but I’ve had a few friends borrow the truck and they think somethings wrong with it since it lugs. Now I’m noticing it more and have to do my own little tweaks with the shifter and ECT to maintain the right gearing.

Btw I’m only voicing because I’m curious if the 2.0 with the new perameters is going to allow a change to that. It seems it’s only at that speed it lugs. Lower great power... highway speeds perfect as well. Mid range it’s shifting way to high of a gear to maintain speed.

Any thoughts in comparison to 93 base or performance? I’m at 91 now and tempted to do 93, but was wondering if there were any appreciable differences or is that butt dyno territory?

no 93 where i'm at . Here's what i do .May be a pain for some . 91 performance . S4 around town . Knock it over to drive on the freeway ...if i come up to a substantial hill i hit the ect button . Truck will downshift good, hold gear and I can go as fast as I want .
The one thing i would like to see is the truck to down shift better ,in drive , going up a hill . Right now it will go in between gears in drive with ect off .

2.0 should change that since he's using his own tables for shifting, instead of having to work with the ones Toyota put out.

2.0 is a complete rewrite of the shift logic and shift tables. It should behave (in terms of shifting) like the 2005-2015 trucks did, that’s the goal anyway.

I’m not sure a re-gear will be necessary. The truck has plenty of power. It’s just a matter of making it available in more useable rpm range and/or changing the tc and shift points.

I’m heavy on 33’s and when using S mode to make the truck shift at my desired points it feels great. IMO, If Mat is able to adjust the vvt as mentioned, the truck will not need gears for 33’s.

I have the funds standing by just in case, but am really looking forward to the option of using the money elsewhere.

    Fingers crossed.

My comment was mostly just me being an ass, since I drive a M/T. I don't have to fight really tall gearing (well, except for reverse).

    Not out yet.

On a side note I’m 04b30 and wasn’t too sure if I had the stutter. I updated to the 1.05.1 and my truck definitely feels smoother and seems easier to get to 70-80mph whereas the old tune I had to mash on the pedal to get there.

Trucks going on the dyno next week.
2.0 does completely rewrite the shift logic, mapping, learning, calculations, switches, modes, including several sections of RAM repurposed.
There will be video walk through + all new blog. Some of the development stuff we talked about / posted about before has been scrapped, replaced with more efficient and, simply a better method.

Upshift and downshift tables are completely redesigned.

We do not have any expected updates before 2.0. There will be no bandaid patches to the current tables.

    we're getting closer!

Is support for 04B03 out the window? Was fine with being patient and not flashing to 04b04 but if it's not gonna be supported anymore then I guess I have to

04B03 is still supported for all standard tunes.
But in the case of the torque converter shutter, the TSB from toyota is exactly for that, and we have been recommending people who have this issue specifically, to get updated by the dealer so that you're :
    1. on toyotas fixed version
    2. so that it is documented with toyota that your truck had this problem.

Yup, the chugging at 1k rpms is irritating, 35-40mph and the rpms just drop and stay dropped even up to 50 mph - I call it the '1100rpm lug'. I am hopeful 2.0 solves this!

It just goes to show that different people are looking for different solutions from OVTune.

One of the things I have enjoyed the most has been the added torque down low which has allowed me to hold 6th gear and run 35-45 mph at low rpm! Great gas mileage.
