For those of you who doesn’t like the lug at 1100 rpm try 1.04. 1,2,3 gears shifts above 2k and powerband is at the correct rpm coming out of corners. The only downfall of 1.04 is that harsh transmission clunk.

Everyone, stop telling Mat how the transmission should shift. This is why shifting is still screwed up because he tries to make everyone happy. People wanted to it to stay in 6th while cruising on the highway and now your complaining of dead pedal because it needs 90% throttle for it to downshift to 5th! Mat is the pro, let him tune it to best match the shift map to the engine. If you want it to stay in 6th at 65mph on the highway, get a Tundra!

No kidding! Also, people need to realize that an electronic throttle will never behave or respond like a cable throttle.

They did, but many other features were not yet refined. 1.05 is great on 91 Base. I’m super stoked to see what you can do with the VVT down lower in the RPM range.

...and an automatic transmission is not a manual transmission. (please forgive me for revving up the MT guys. Plug your ears.) AT's are always a compromise and sometimes you got too fool them into doing what you want them to do. I don't mind "slogging" in traffic and "lugging" from 35 to 40 /because the car in front of me decided he actually could drive the speed limit on his way to his colonoscopy. And, I am not beyond mashing the accelerator to the floor, getting the revs up and the transmission into serious gears and the feathering the throttle while I time the gap in traffic I'm going to hit like a mad banshee. I still have to out think my truck, just like I had to have a plan with my 4 cyl MT Tacoma.

Most of us are happier now then when we were using Toyota's solution. And we have more options than Toyota gave us with more in the pipe.

Life may not be perfect, but it is a whole lot better.

I won't feel so guilty anymore. I've been worried that generations of my Iowa ancestors have been wagging their fingers at me.

One of the main reasons that the shifting still needs improvements is due to the fact the transmission will upshift @ 0% gas pedal, and those targets will throw you into that low rpm if you're right on the line of the axle speed.
That's all going bye bye in 2.0.

Less gas mileage is about all that will happen. Performance possibilities go up the higher the concentration. (but 15% really isn't going to do anything performance wise).
Ethanol is very very high octane.

From a tuning and performance point, Ethanol is amazing. Cheap, easy to obtain, race gas that will let you melt an engine before you see det.
From a commuting standpoint, it's terrible. Gas mileage goes out the window, and it's not really worth the cost, because Ethanol is nowhere near as cheap as it should be. I remember in colorado you used to be able to get E85 for like $1.10 a gallon.
But around here it's almost $2.15+ a gallon!

People around here don’t like it near as much as you would think based on how hard they push it. The people who like it are the ones you would expect, the ones making a fortune off it. Everyone else, not so much

From 1st through 3rd my Truck shifts right at 2000rpm in Regular Drive Mode. 04B31 ~ 105.0-87 base and running 90octane Non Ethanol. 4X2 Off-Road with stock size tires. Running a TRD CAI with TRD Cat Back Exhaust. Still need to put some more miles on, but so far she is running great and getting better with each trip.

I keep reading that Dirty Deeds exhaust system for a 3rd gen Tacoma plays real nicely with low end torque, anyone have experience with this exhaust and an OVTune?

I used my tactrix and techstream to help a friend at work with a Tacoma apply the stumble TSB to his 2016 Tacoma. He asked if I could apply an OV Tune using my paid for software and I was not sure and didn’t want to violate any agreements with OV Tune so I didn’t even try. Does anyone know if I/we can apply a tune to another Tacoma that’s not ours and still be kosher with Matt / OV Tune? I’m not even sure if it’s possible since the software may be tied to the laptop and vehicle registered with Matt. Not a big deal, just curious. If the answer is no, I’ll just let my buddy drive my truck and I’m sure he’ll purchase the software for himself once he sees how much better it drives.

Haven’t been able to read up in a couple days.... But I’m extremely happy others are chiming in on the Lug. It’s super annoying that this truck is jumping up to 5th and 6th at 35mph. Whoever wanted it this way is just crazy because no car should act like that. If you wanted fuel efficiency you shouldn’t have a pickup truck. I average 16.5mpg reguardless of the tune. I enjoy how the tune has woken up my trucks power. I’m looking forward to 2.0 in hopes this thing shifts firm and the speed/rev matches the right powerband not peoples preference.

Amen bro. I had a 2003 4-cyl manual Tacoma too (wish I never sold it) so I know what you mean

been following the thread and checking their website for over a year. there has been a lot of talk about the system but not too many actual users. repeatedly they have been asked for dyno results but I have yet to see any. and a system thats upwards of $1500+ thats more money than I want to spend to make more noise.

I have the complete Dirty Deeds exhaust including y-pipe and it does more than just make noise. You don’t hear from a lot of people who have them because most who do have it wouldn’t think they need to be tuned. Yes,you can customize the “noise” that the truck makes through your choice of different mufflers but it also makes the truck run significantly smoother and with more power. I also don’t have the shutter,surging,etc.,etc. that others have.Whether the exhaust is the reason who knows. It does not change the shift map but it does do a lot for the truck to make it more drivable. It is a lot of money and I couldn’t have afforded it if I weren’t a tester, but I would have at least checked my y-pipe to see how restricted it is.According to DD some of them are pretty scary.
