The tune defines the relationship between the throttle pedal and the throttle valve/trans shifting etc. We now have a TPS (throttle position sensor) and a TPPS (throttle pedal position sensor)... It's all digital now my friend! Acoustic valve timing for instance. This is literally fly by wire. If you flash to a different tune there is almost zero chance that the previous learned values will provide a satisfactory driving experience with the new tables that are loaded when you flash to a different tune. The bummer is that it takes at least 300 miles for a tune to start to settle in but well worth the trip!!

I’m definitely switching to base tune (assuming that works with gear lock). It’s been a couple weeks and I still can’t drive smoothly starting off with gear lock and performance. Too touchy.

    No can do.

    Base
    Performance
    Performance + Gearlock

Those are your options for now.

I have 4.88" gears and use the 87 gearlock tune. I tried the 91 performance tune and found it surges with mild pedal depression. Especially in reverse. The 87 gearlock after a few weeks settled right in what I consider the sweet spot for my overall use. The throttle is still sensitive compared to stock, but no longer surges and the gearlock is great for when I tow my Camper.

Base tune is a lot better in terms of drive-ability...I do miss the quick acceleration and whatnot, but on my commute to work this morning, I was at 18.3mpg

Agreed. The 87 perf was fun but too touchy in city driving. Once the base tune settled I average 18-19 city and 20-21 hwy if I keep my lead foot in check.

I'm just happy to be back in the 18mpg range...especially with my heavy ass pig of a truck.

I've been reading through this post looking for an answer that I haven't found.
Question is, Does the upgrade to 2.0 cost anything?

    I do a lot of highway driving...stock I was getting 22-23mpg.

Now I'm on 33's and soon to be 35's, 4.30's, full steel armor (800++lbs), roof rack, etc etc...I'm very happy to get 18mpg.

Ouch. You need 5.29’s with the double overdrive in these trucks with your setup

Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhh, but $$$$$$$$$$$$$. I dropped probably $6-7k this year on mods, so gears will have to wait a while.

I agree with you. I feel a little guilty with how much $ I’ve put into my truck. No more mods for me...at least for now

I need gears, front locker, and Kings...then I'm done. Trying to wrap up all the small and tedious stuff by end of this year...those big ticket items might have to wait another year or two...depends on if the other half is knocked up again.
