2.0 on 87. Quick review - truck feels different than 1.05 GL. Throttle control is much better! Shift points are smooth as the truck works through 1-4 to get up to speed. Slowing down is great, and you can feel the shift points are at the correct spot to avoid clunk/jerk/etc. Will have highway thoughts soon.

So far I've seen a lot of people praise 2.0 that also like to drive with ECT on. In stock and 1.5.x, the truck does a good job in keeping the RPMs very low which in turn reduces fuel consumption and I imagine engine wear and tear in the long term.

How does 2.0 compare? Aside from smooth shifts, what are the shift points like? Does it like to hang in higher rpms?

When cruising along at 45mph, does it set in 5th at 1100 RPMs or does it stay in a lower gear?

It still upshifts. The nice thing now is it readily downshifts when needed. You don’t have to be so far into the gas pedal to produce a downshift.

So if I have 04B31 I can do the public 2.0 test then....?

Thats what I like to hear. I always drive in S mode on 1.05.1 and manually downshift to 5th in anticipation of a hill. Its not easy to produce a downshift without losing speed with the gas pedal only.

No. Only 04B04 has been released to the public so far. You're gonna have to wait a little longer...

Yeah, that’s no longer a concern. I’m not a big fan of all the TC activity in D mode, but for what we are discussing, it helps a ton. Mat has allowed the TC to slip in more condition which puts you in a better RPM range. Couple that with the ability to downshift if the TC slip isn’t enough and your left with much better gas pedal response.
I’m excited to see what the non-gear lock version will be like in S Mode. I think it’d be cool to have the more active TC in D mode and the nearly non existent TC activity in S mode. I know that’s how it is right now which is cool if you like the gear lock files. I haven’t tested anything but gear lock because that’s all that’s been made available to me.

Flashed 2.0/87 this morning. Drove 20 mostly highway miles to work. If the truck came with 1.05 from the factory there would be far fewer of these tunes sold. 2.0 is what it should have been from the factory.

    Highlights;
I have a slight up hill on ramp to the freeway into a busy merging/exiting portion of the freeway. Can go 50 to 25 and back many times in half a mile. This would leave 1.05 hunting between 3rd and 5th. 2.0 steadily holds 4th. It's not afraid to let it rev past 2000rpm under lighter throttle and pull noticable harder in 4th from 35 mph.

My drive is pretty much all rolling hills. With stock tune most of these "hills" would be 4th gear climbs. 1.05 could pull these in 5th but would have to dig into the gas and feel it out to not go into 4th. This morning, I could pass traffic easily in 5th.

    Impressions
Overall highway feel is like 1.03 which I really like or a slightly milder version of 1.05 performance tune. In city feel is like 1.05 normal with ECT power but better shift points, particularly 3 to 4.

I also got better mpgs. I usually average high 22's. I got mid 23 this morning.

Unexpected things that I will need to get used to. Throttle tip in is really between base and performance tunes. For me, there feels like there's some slack in the drivetrain that gets taken up everytime I accelerate from a stop so there's a bump when accelerating from a stop.

I've been really happy with 1.05 in the city and was hoping for 1.03 or 1.05perf feel on the highway. This tune delivers that. Extremely happy.

Haven't noticed and quirks to report. Thank you Mat!

That 'slip' is your back tire spinning. LOL. Just kidding. It is easier to spin the tire with 2.0 though!

I'm not a gear lock user and don't use ETC much either so maybe I should give this beta a go.

Well, if you normally run your truck in D mode, this beta version will give you a good idea of what the final will be like. If you don’t normally run gear lock, then this file could serve as a trial for you to see which version of the final tune you will run.

I can't stand D mode on 1.05. Strictly use S so I can decide 5th and 6th usage for myself. I get annoyed dropping 5 mph on minor rolling hills in 6th. Granted everyone else does it too, but if I don't have drivers in front of me I like to maintain a constant speed.

With 2.0 if you're in D and push ECT, you've activated Gear Lock, correct?

Lol, yup. Understood. I think we can all agree with you on that. D mode on this beta file is way different. You might just like it. Otherwise, just wait it out. I imagine the final release is eminent. Sounds like all the public (non-zendesk) feedback is positive. He may just be dialing in the octane recognition portion of the file. I can’t speak for all the preliminary testers, but I’ve been on 2.0 for at least 2 weeks through two different files. I think final release is close.

You have to be in S+ect to get gearlock

    ECT + S Mode = Gear Lock
    (As I understand it)
If you’re really interested, you can search the thread and find out what ECT does by itself and what S Mode does by itself.

I'm curious how octane detection will work. My theory is advance timing til knock and use those parameters to select the correct tune or something like that.

Oh ok, I was hesitant on trying out the Beta as I'm always in ECT mode but I never
use S mode so it should be a non issue then. If I'll never see gear-lock unless I switch
to S mode, all is good then, thanks.
