If you are running 4.88’s the 2.0 tune will blow you away. The power is crazy different (in a good way) uphill and just daily driving

    It's complicated.
That's really good to know! I seriously considered going straight to the 2.0, but I wanted to establish a baseline using an "in-between" --for my very first re-tune. The 1.05.1 is what I would now consider to be the perfect "stock" tune.

I'll give it a week or so, and then upgrade to the 2.0

    :)

Is 2.0 a limited release or test file? I tried to DL and not available yet.

Should 4.88s or Ovtune be first?

Depends on if you’re on larger tires but the tune is less coin so I second the tune option first.

It depends on your ECU version. If the download fails it's not available yet.

IMO, it dpends on the use. For example, crawling with/or larger tires, vs highway miles. IMO, OVtune is an immideate difference, and well worth it over stock (including being patient with Mat and experienced with a laptop).

4:88 gears definitely compliment the auto transmission (including normal driving and, especially, when crawling in 4lo-1st gear).

My buddy's stock truck gets 22 mpg without OVTune, and he has no concerns (he doesn't know what he's missing). It's definitely personal preference. I'm currently running OVTune with 4:88's (DCLB-OR).

On a side note, performance mode doesn't work well (because of the throttle response) with 4lo-1st gear because of the touchy tip-in. I'm currently running 1.05 Base mode and it works much better compared to performance mode/map (anxiously waiting 2.0 for 18-19 tacos).

I will start off by saying my tech understanding is suspect at best...but I can get through downloading a base 91 tune after reading and watching the instructional items 3 times (minimum).

So, I am stepping up and asking about Tech Stream (TS) portion of these tune. What does TS do, and is it just for dongle users?

Lastly... I am truly happy with by 91 Base Tune. Its put me in the place I assumed I would have been in, but had no idea how wrong I was putting full armor, 2.5 lift and 33's on a stock Tacoma. My need to mod and geek it out a bit felt like it ruined the truck. Side Note: I feel like the 2nd Gen I had for 10 years would have taken a lift and 33's no sweat. No weird down shifting, the if the pedal moved, the truck moved - not like with the 3rds.

With my current 1.05 91 Base Tune I am feeling like I am knocking on the door of 2.0 given 1.05 improvements. 2.0 will hopefully summon the soul of the 2nd Gens driver experience back into the 3rd, and all is right in the force from then on.

2.0 beta is fucking awesome. This is the first time in 2.5 years and 73000 miles that I drove my truck in in D mode, 2017 3.5 liter auto with 3.91 gears and 265 e load bfs heavy with a shell, and the truck felt connected to the throttle peddle.

Absolutely how it should have felt from the factory. Cruise control was awesome also.

I still have a studder 1st gear 1800-2000 rpm. Hopefully full2.0 will address the half lock torque converter for sound control.

    99.5 % perfection for me.

    I can’t wait for 91 octane 2.0 EROM . I can tell the 87 octane timing drop.

Hrmmm... this is interesting. I've been wondering what there are for tunes out there. I think my 2018 TRD Sport would appreciate this.

Can't download the 2.0 beta from flash mgr, you need to use the link above
And iirc all files are for 04B04 and all are gear lock
If you don't have 04B04 then do not use the beta, you will have to wait until 2.0 is released for whatever ECU you have

Yes, a file is currently there ( including 4:88's w/ Gearlock), but it's currently for 16-17 year taco.

    200 miles.

Still feels great. Shifting is smooth and predictable. TC lock/unlock improvements are huge - no harsh downshifts, unlocks to allow slippage for increased rpms to pull in high gears without downshifting.

I was hoping for more “seat of the pants” hp/tq below the 3,500 rpm mark. My least favorite characteristic of this truck is the 3,500 rpm light switch like power band - reminds me of my first 125cc 2t dirtbike.

    Any helpful suggestions appreciated...
I have a prepaid card from my bank (can’t add additional money). The total is not enough to pay for OVTune. Yes I screwed up and overlooked shipping and taxes. OV website does not allow for “split” payments.
