Tacoma - OVTUNE - VFTUNER - Update Info and Original Development

Has anyone towed something of significance with an OVTuned transmission? I pull a 2500 lb boat relatively frequently and would be curious to know what I might expect. As it stands, I lockout 6th and let the truck work in 5th and occasionally 4th. Rarely find the need for ECT. I guess a straight gear lock in 5th might be a nice option.

The bump in low and mid range power makes a significant difference towing.

 

This is over the last 90 miles @ 60 mph

 

Damn. I drove from Pittsburgh to Myrtle beach and got 19.3 but the mountains in west Virginia didnt help

 

Doomed to 04B03 for now I suppose. Techstream still giving me fits. My local dealer says he won't do it either.... but I'm a patient man. Only troubles me that Matt recommends 04.

Been waiting on 2018 2.0 beta release all weekend as well. That license plate though!

 

will the final version of 2.0 have a different (less aggressive) throttle when in low range?

i know it was mentioned before the possibility of having two throttle curves one for high range and one for low range.

 

My bad,I thought you had a cable and tactrix already. If you don't have the tactrix and just the cable, it is $600.

 

I have the same app and yes, can confirm, doesn’t lock. But I didn’t need the app to tell

 

Tune definitely. You may save thousands if you determine you’re happy with the tune and stock gears. If not, you’ll be even happier with the tune and 4.88s. If you do gears first, you’re still going to want the tune. => might as well start with the tune.

 

I do. I’m selling the tactrix and cable, so it would only cost them $325 for the software?

 

I tow a 5000 lb boat. 1.05 91 performance was great with it. Highest gear I go in is 4th, maybe 5th if its absolutely flat and always have ECT on.
Always keeping an eye on trans temps.
Haven't towed yet with 2.0 beta but just based on how much better it is driving city/highway, I have high hopes for towing.

 

What are your pan and TC temps generally when towing 5000lbs?

 

I made it for the front. Just a vanity plate. I made it about 8 months ago.
