In an effort to upgrade from ECU 04A60 to 04A61 and try to take advantage of the beta release on Aug. 24th, I phoned the local Toyota dealer.
I wanted to have the dealer perform TSB-62-18, which identifies an issue at high altitude. This TSB, if applied, will update my ECU to 04A61.

The dealer told me they can not just perform a TSB without verifying the problem. We are at ~100' AMSL (above mean sea level) the nearest altitude and the location where I explained "my issue" occurred is a 3 hour drive to get to 8000'.

My response was, how are you going to verify the issue without an in-house atmospheric simulation chamber or taking the 3 hour drive.

Thier reply was that they would contact the regional service manager and get an answer.

UPDATE!!!....the local service manger consulted with his local manager and they have me scheduled for this Monday for the reflash.

 

If you don’t use GL does ECT even have a function anymore?

 

Well, when you are in drive and push ECT, it doesn’t downshift. It will upshift, then only downshifts in Extreme cases (pushing pedal to the floor from a stop)
You have to push the shifter into S and manually shift.
This is by design. Used for locking in a gear to tow.

 

I understand how it works in reference to gear locking. My question is, if there is no gear lock function, will it act like it did on a stock tune. Does It still change the way the truck shifts

 

Was wondering the same thing. Once the official 2.0 comes out without the ECT being tied to GL what will ECT button do?

 

Oh, I gotcha.
On 1.05 without Gearlock, it does work that way. The way it normally works on a stock tune.

I haven't been able to find a way to buy just the hardware for the tune. Is there an alternative to the OV OBD2 kit(don't need another license)?

Let the gearlock be an added feature. I've been on ECT for a year, and loved the shift points. For the most part, I bet 90% of the owners rarely would even use it but for wheeling, towing and occasionally acting a fool. But I would love to see 2.0 just as a stand alone beta test.

 

Usually, it is the other way around. Needing licenses and not the hardware. Here you go:

Note that @OVTune said that the adapter that comes with the kit is a version not sold to the public.

 

That's right. Okay cool, so this is basically the same thing that we buy from OV?

I do not know. That was just what was posted. The chipset might be particular to OVT?

I do know that I did the TSB tune with a borrowed non-OVT Tactrix adapter and got the OVT version when I finally ponied up.

 

I wouldn't go for a cheap cable.
Quality cable is cheaper than a new ECU.
