Please don’t let this turn into 5 pages of octane talk. This thread is hard enough to keep up with.

You do realize that you’re trying to argue with the tuner who’s been dealing with these trucks for 3 years now? He’s heard every story under the sun about these trucks

Edit: I suggest you take a read through this thread to see and understand why your statements are false

Have there been any hints as to when the 2.0 files will be available again? I'm assuming they aren't up now because the site says pending update and flash manager won't download them.

Timing can be advanced by performance tuning and higher octane gas helps prevents pre-detonation. The OV performance tune is likely advancing timing. This is particularly important for high compression engines with advanced timing. The goal for high compression and advanced timing is to slow the start of the burn of fuel/air mixture which is what higher octane gas does. This lights the mixture earlier but it takes longer to ignite and burn which increases power.

I’ve always tried to make sense of the “ethanol is greener” spin. If you look at the entire cycle of making a gas-ethanol blend I’m not sure it adds up. From the gas and diesel power to plow, plant, and harvest the corn to transporting it to the refineries (diesel), to the additional energy to process it into the fuel sent to the gas stations, I can’t see it makes a huge environmental improvement. I will say this- it helps the farmers. And I’m all in favor of that.

There are better ways to help the farmers. Also, my guess is that energy corp are buying from farm corps, not family farms?

In the end, this craziness just needs to stop. I would be even more against it if I had a boat or a bike with a plastic tank. Those guys have been bent over by this.

I am in the middle of the registration process for OVTune and I got hung up by my norton antivirus. I can’t get the p5flash part to work so I can get my registration number and OVTune will not respond until they are open on Monday.
Anyone else have this problem? I’m thinking of deleting files and starting over.

....and vehicles get 10% less fuel efficiency with 10% ethanol. I've run nothing but ethanol-free in my truck (except on road trips) and had the same with prev (non-Toyota) vehicles.

I tried it, filled up at about 1/3 tank so it was a mix - i thought I noticed a little difference, but could be a placebo I don't know, either way, i will stick to 87

I am beginning to think this "self learning" thing is making my truck slowly suck over time without me noticing it, I realized this yesterday during a trip up thru hills / surface streets with the wife, she had not been in the truck since the day I flashed the last 2.0 (about 500 miles ago, on 8/25). During the trip yesterday she mentioned how it felt (from the passenger seat) like less power and my foot was compensating for it. It was then i realized it was not performing the same as it did on 8/25 (shifting was fine, it was only the power). So we got home and I flashed back to the original 2.0, took it for a spin and without any doubt in my mind the truck had much more power (better tip-in, better response at any range). I am fully stock, 04B04 87 (although been burning some 91 lately).

I realize I did not re-flash the 2.0 OLE (from 8/25) but instead went back to original, so i am comparing two different 2.0's (original vs. OLE) so my "self learning" theory is a bit flawed, but when I updated 2.0 to the 2.0 OLE (back on 8/25) I didn't notice much of a difference between the two. But when i flashed yesterday it was a very noticeable power difference, so it must have degraded over time/miles. I will continue to experiment
