    Update sent to Mat:

My general assessment is in line with my initial assessment, but I’d like to report that the tip in is tolerable now. I think it’s because I got used to it, not that it relaxed while settling in. Given an option, I’d go with a milder version, but this one is not that bad. I think a milder version would help with the clunk that I now get when getting on the gas in the middle of a rolling stop.

I still want to see 4th gear later. It’s fine if I’m accelerating with light throttle, but anything more needs worked on.

Everything else is pretty fricken nice.

Have you, or anyone else, tried out 4 low in slow offroading situations? My experience is that the tip in is way to aggressive in 4 low. anyone else experiencing this?

I agree with 4th being too quick in many situations and that the rest of the tune is pretty awesome

I find that the tip-in on 19770 is too aggressive even for 4HI, and can't imagine it meshing well with 4LO. The pedal is just too touchy for slow maneuvering IMO, which is the same issue I had with the 1.05 Performance tunes. I've gone back to the 16012 Base 2.0 build and find that it's much, much better in driveability for me. Nice, smooth, linear acceleration. Plenty of power. Smooth and predictable tip-in. Little to no dead pedal. I would definitely choose this tune over 19770 as a daily driver. But, I'm looking forward to seeing what Mat has done with 19880 when it gets released.

Yeah there wasn’t enough throttle modulation it’s really hard to be smooth on rocks in 4lo.

Anyone else interested in the ability to start in 2nd in 4lo. My 80 series would do that. Not sure if it’s possible to implement. 1>2 in 4lo gets old.

What I was doing was gear locking in 2, but im not sure if that was actually starting in 2. Would be a good feature in 4 low to have gearlock actually start in 2 if thats possible and only for 4 low.

    Zendesk beta feedback #10229:

Throttle response - Too twitchy to be useful for my driving style. It's fun on pavement when there's no tight maneuvering, and it's amusing to let other people drive the truck to see their surprise at the way it jumps, but it makes parking and tight maneuvering a challenge. This weekend, I was on lots of really steep, tight gravel roads, some of which required 4wd (campground and shuttle roads in the Fayetteville area). The throttle response was borderline dangerous in those conditions. The truck would leap forward or break loose if a water bar or washout made my foot move. I also found it 'interesting' the few times when I had to step on the throttle hard when making a turn. I can see value in having an aggressive throttle like this for some folks, but it's not for me.

Shifting on hills - I noticed several times that the truck would get 'stuck' at 3K rpm in 4th gear on a mild incline if I accelerated briskly and then let off the gas. I experimented with this, and it took several seconds of zero throttle before the truck would upshift on its own. This could be worked around by putting the transmission in S mode just long enough to request an upshift to 5th, then going back into D. At that point, it would hold 5th like it should (this hill, I know from experience, is a '5th gear hill' with all of the previous 2.0 betas).

Shifting with acceleration - At some throttle positions, the 3-4-5 shift timing is great. At other throttle positions, it's early. I had one pull where I think my foot was probably at half or maybe 3/4 throttle, enough that the acceleration in 2nd gear set me back in my seat, and the engine spun up to 5500 before shifting to 3rd. The next two shifts, however, happened very quickly, making the truck stop accelerating. Maybe that's normal with these gear ratios - just felt weird to go from 'mostly hauling ass' to 'puttering along' without any change in my right foot's position. That said, my morning highway merge (slight uphill, probably a half mile long) goes great at 25-30% throttle (a guess - I don't have monitoring software). Each gear shift happens when it should, based on seat of the pants.

Engine braking/downshifting - This weekend I did a lot of engine braking while descending steep mountain back roads. Several times I noticed that the downshift seemed not to generate as much engine braking as I have been used to with previous tunes. One case really stands out - I was downshifting progressively on a decently steep grade, and ended up going all the way into 1st gear. This was a surprise, because the grade looked like a 2nd gear grade. The only way I knew I was in 1st was because the engine spun up to 4500 or so rpms. Normally, if I inadvertently went all the way to 1st like that, the braking effect would be enough to shove me forward in my seat. In this case, I felt none of that - just engine noise. I noticed similar downshifting in the higher gears later on. It's a very smooth downshift, but it seems (by seat of the pants evidence only) that maybe the smoothness is obtained at the expense of braking effect. Or maybe it's all in my head :).

Mileage - I can't give you any more feedback on this, unfortunately, because I recently replaced my stock tires with different ones that are 5 lbs a tire heavier. That affected my mileage enough that I won't be able to compare this beta or any future ones against my old benchmarks for 'best' mileage.

Yes, I flashed 04A61 19770 a week before I was to attend a 4x4 trail run. This run would include some finesse sections with throttle control.
I was concerned about the aggressive tip in, so I tried 4Hi and Lo before the run. Both were very aggressive, with obviously 4Lo was more aggressive.

Even after 100 miles, the tip in would not calm down. So I re-flashed back to 2.0 Base and didn't have any problems on the run.

This may seem silly but has anyone tried gearlocking their truck in 6th on the highway for better mpg? Would keeping it in 6th instead of it jumping between 5-6 net more mpg?

FWIW, with a full load, going into the headwind, 4:88's, previous 2.0 base tune, my truck couldn't pick a gear between 4th and 5th at the 70 mph spot. 6th gear worked great going downhill though ;)

I was in the same boat as you. After 272 miles, tip in seemed like it got worse. Stock 2018 DCLB OR.

Just drove from San Francisco to Vancouver British Columbia on the 2.0 19770 tune. Tune has been great mpg wise and power wise. Helped tremendously in the high elevation mountain passes. One thing that did not settle in was the tip in. It is way to aggressive for my taste. It was especially apparent in the rain. Had multiple spin outs off the line. Flashed back to the previous tune and love the tip in.
