oh totally I got that context, my question was in regards to the OV's 'base' (if that is even the right word) tune for each octane, eg, for 2.0 would that be the exhaust tune (or what would be the equiv to the 1.05 base vs performance etc)? That is where I suppose my confusion is. Sorry again if this has been asked/answered a million times

agreed! given my insane mountain daily drives to flat lands (in front range mtns CO) etc I am sure I will be trying all sorts of options

 

If you haven’t downloaded the OVTune software and requested your registration key, you need to do that while waiting for your kit to be shipped. The instructions are on his website.

Time to switch/evolve. Dongles are going to be phased out. At least that sounds like the plan.

I hope not as those of us with dongles, you know the (early adopters) mostly prefer not to be tied to one PC and I know it’s extra files for Mat but I personally don’t mind waiting and be able to keep the dongle..!!
I also don’t want to have to pay more.

 

I saw this coming and just decided to pony up for a hand held. I think there were some early discounts for those that got on board quick but he closed pre orders quite a while ago and I was only able to order in this latest round. Hopefully any discounts he decides to give to motivate people to ‘purge their dongles’ will be retroactive.

 

This thought crossed my mind and not being computer code savy. Could Mat write a line of code that said something like "search for dongle, run program... if no dongle found search for registration files on PC..run program. That would eliminate anyone having to switch and save Mat the headache of sending out registration keys for all the dongle guys.

 

I’ve used the same computer since day 1 so I’m not really too concerned either way

the dongle population is becoming less and less as time goes on and at some point is just unnecessary overhead. I’d give mine up if it meant it freed mat up to spend more time on development and less time making a billion files.

It’s definitely becoming a smaller percentage of the total lot. But supporting just 1 dongle user on each ECU doubles his file count. I’ll bet that it’s more work to support a new ECU than it is to write a separate dongle file though.

 

Which tune should i use for stock downtubes but secondary cats removed? Stock exhaust i guess?

I'll just jump in and say that I got a surprise replacement for my original, slow-ass tuning laptop. It was an absolute piece of cake to get a REG file for the new machine from @OVTune .

 

Dongle user here. I've switched laptop 4 times since the OVT purchase. Love the ability to switch PC without having to contact OVT for new reg key.

I may be the minority, switching to software key based authentication would be a big loss. Perhaps Mat can look into implementing USB authentication in ToyFlash (P5F) utility. Then dongle users can use the P5F files without the hassle of reg keys.

Not sure why PCM files are taken off the public beta page. To encourage dongle (PCM) users to switch to P5F? I understand having to write PCM and P5F file is time consuming, but there are better solutions then taking the convenient USB dongle authentication feature away from your early adapter.

 

Anyone else notice the throttle on 19800 is a little bit milder than 19770?
