a few months back when the handhelds first came out the set up step had you flash back to stock to set up the handheld. I did and had issues with the handheld. I drove around for a few days with the stock tune on my truck. I had forgotten how bad it was before the the tune. It felt like I was hauling a bed full of cement, just didn't have any pep. On the highway the constant gear hunting and loss of mpg was noticable. A few hundred miles after flashing back to the tune I was smiling again.

this will be the best $700 you spend on your truck

Ok so I’m on leg 1791 of this looooong thread and it’s taking an absurd amount of time to read by skipping using only the arrows on ovtunes comments. Everytime he shares a blog post or link, I venture from here and read every word on blog posts and any relevant links. One thing to this day I still don’t understand are the dump tubes. Would anyone mind helping me understand their purpose and value? In my mind I keep wanting to think it dumps all exhaust from engine before the cats but I’m most likely definitely wrong there. Thanks and sorry for the uneducated guess!

That is actually a good guess and there are exhaust dump tubes that are built just for that reason but not in this case. His dump tubes are larger exhaust tubes that the head manifold dumps into and then through exhaust system. Less restrictive for a little more power gain. Best if you run aftermarket exhaust.

Well I’m becoming that guy I think - everything is interesting and I want to know so much.... time!!!

Anyway February 17th of 2019 I can honestly say the developer had a day he’d probably not forget. The new flash manager was released and was tested over and over and worked perfect.... then he released it and insanity! If you’re anything like me and would like to learn I highly suggest starting on page one of this thread and click the arrow to the right on OVtune posts. So so so many highlights to see how this all came to fruition. His kid will get away with murder before seeing any discipline judging by his easy going demeanor towards a large group of hounds that haven’t been fed in weeks! (Best analogy :))

Anyway I’ve been reading about all the different tunes and variances and how surprisingly so many trucks differ in so many unique ways that it seems unbelievable they have same drivetrains and same backend software to drive our machines.

Now my next question is this, I’m new and just recently purchased and I like it no doubt. But through very extensive reading (which I may just haven’t read far enough yet) I see that 1.0.5 had a few options. Base of course and performance and gearlock and FOB. When installing initially I decided to go straight to 2.0 beta but 1.0.5 offers a 93 octane only tune. I’m curious if this is already implemented in 2.0 or is 1.0.5 the only 93 option at this point. I’m asking because the tune is strikingly good and I’m running 91 performance 2.0 on 04b31 AT but was wondering how much difference there is in 1.0.5 on the 93 octane setting. Plus more questions but I don’t want to be more annoying than I have to while I’m learning. Thanks

So I haven’t open flash manager in a while. So I updated to latest, but now nothing comes up when trying to select tabs. Anyone have any idea why?

Mine was same when I first purchased couple weeks ago. Only reason I know is because it happened to me. All I did was follow instructions on website to do everything OVTune required for a registration key. Upon hooking up to the truck for the first time it worked from that point on. Not sure if that helps your situation but did me. Just needed first initial wired hookup to the odb port

Did you make sure to uninstall the old flash manager before installing? Also I would make sure to uninstall the new flash manager and to make sure all files are deleted by checking both the install folder and using the purge all data option in flash manager as you might have some old files left over from the old version of flash manager causing conflicts.

Ok...so I'm new to this but have done some reading.
I have a 2020 Pro and am not happy with the throttle response.
    MPG is not my concern.
So I can buy the tune and program for Performance with either 91 or 93.
Is there much of a difference between them?
91 is probably more readily available here in PA. Though I think most gas stations have 93 too.
I'm reading that the improvements are significant and I hope that is true for the 2020.

I’m still wondering if there’s a 93 specific tune for 2.0 or if it’s built into the 2.0 19800 release. No worries as I’m not changing a tune until 500 miles minimum. I did see 1.0.5 had 93 octane specific but throughout my extensive reading there may be an issue of brake override malfunction for my 04b31.

Back to reading, on the last stretch now as I’m on oct 19 of 2019 so not much more left!

    I have another question...
Should this be done after the truck is properly broken in?

1.0.5 inhanced the frequency of this error, as it would happen on stock factory tune.

    2.0 fixes it

Sounds good. I’ll be sticking with this build for some time and then possibly the 19770 or whatever it was that was prior to most recent for lighter tip in (if anyone has it). But that’ll be some time from now as I’d like to see how things settle over at least 2/3 tanks bare minimum. To me that’s not much seeing as how I can’t remember how many thousand miles I went after purchasing before it seemed my stock truck settled. Mpg was the largest noticeable factor because when it was new it got 16-18. Now (prior to tune) it would get 20-21 on average. Over more time I’d like to see if the tunes ever achieved more than what I previously topped out at but if not it’s ok too.

Another thing I’d like to try while still on 19800 is long hauling with weight like a loaded trailer. Not going to load something and go 500 miles just to see but I typically have something come up anyway where I need to haul large loads without having prior plans for it.

Sorry to be all over the thread now, just giddy like a kid in candy store sorta. The added boost in performance is nice when needed as long as not wide open throttle. The shifting and the fixing of trans stutter under low rpm in 4/5/6 was gone 200%. Not once thus far has newly tuned truck went 3/4/5/4/5/6/5/6/5/4/5/6 etc... And that plus the trans stutter fix alone is worth the purchase to me.

One other thing I read along the way is others notice power surge in same gear when quickly accelerating where the truck seems to lunge with more power after a certain rpm. I can’t honestly say I’ve felt that since tune either but wouldn’t be a game changer just always felt odd.

Thanks for reading my long winded posts. Everyone enjoy the holidays!

Quick edit - I’m officially done reading 2700+ pages now of ovtunes comments and all the many blog posts and various ventures off thread where things sparked more of my interest. So many favorite comments throughout and some very peculiar customers that pissed OVtune off but I can’t help but smile as an outside reading in after the fact. Also the Korean Mathew Wilson comment was pretty good alongside his ransom pic!
