Do it now. Everyone wishes they’d done it sooner, never that they’d waited longer

Do it now if interested. Just understand that you’re buying a tune and hardware on initial purchase and after that if you no longer have the truck you’ll be purchasing a $325 license for another truck. $233 A year for first 3 years. After that the cost is less due to buying zero hardware.

Personally I bought the tune for a reason not just because it sounded nice. His product didn’t seem appealing at first due to the price but after driving my 2019 and having gotten tired of the erratic shift behavior and trans stutter at low rpm it was justifiable to me. An added benefit was a small boost in hp and torque but even more so the way the power is delivered rather than only after much higher rpm range.

If your truck is driving and shifting fine to your liking and does what you need with no hiccup it’s not needed. If you’re looking to buy for a better feeling of power delivery with added fuel cost for running premium fuel then it’s setup and ready for ya!

Unfortunately it's not possible to really do what you're after. If you modify throttle, in any way, it modifys how the transmission shifts.

*base* shifting tables are controlled by accelerator vs speed
Then, gear request, shift request is modified by torque tables
    Torque tables are calculated by..throttle.

I've tried it. I've given it to you guys. I've argued over it. Modify throttle only, truck will shift different.

One thing we did on the tundra that really worked nice was modify all shift arises. Gives more room for shift control based on your foot.

Opposite effect on this platform, 2 reasons.
Lack of torque, and nobody wants to be shifting at 3000 rpm +.

I can tell you if people weren't afraid to shift at 2500 rpm instead of it having to be under 2000 rpm, it would drive 10x better.

Maybe a specific "Matt's Special" tune to include said options?

I promise you any time a tune gets released that shifts above 2000 rpm in normal commuting, let alone even touching 3000 rpm, the backlash is off the charts.
Not going down that road again.

I can tell you this. 2.0 final shift maps are design around what works best for each gear, and what makes the truck drive the best. Not tuned for specific rpm points, because it just doesn't work. The gears need tuned for specific SPEEDS based on acceleration, rpm be damned.

If you’re bored one day toss one out there. I’m willing to try it for the experience but 2.0 is such a vast improvement for myself and my truck together compared to how I drive that there doesn’t seem to be much you could do better. Aside from the wot issue of ‘stall shifting’ and the 3-4 early shift sometimes where 4th falls to nothing until speed builds (you mentioned you’re aware of both) I’m very satisfied with how you’ve changed my truck.

Always willing to try new if you’re willing to make it. Nothing to lose on my end this thing is now good. Now spots of my drive no longer drive me nuts where it used to do so much erratic shifting. Now it just holds a single gear to the top of the hill then upshifts rather than 4th then 5th then 4th within about 1.5 seconds to finish the small grade hill to the top where it levels out. This drove me insane and was a 32-38 mph range where all the madness happened.

AT guys complain about shifting over 2000 rpm and all us manual guys shift at 2500-3500 rpm

    :anonymous:

    truck drives much better...

Yep, the 3.5 loves it. It sounds lovely even with stock exhaust when getting on it in 2nd gear. While I did like the 4.0 a lot, it sounded like cement chunks in a 55 gallon barrel when revved over 3k.

Yep. I shift at 2500rpm absolute minimum. Usually 3-4 and she gets up and moves on 34s no regear. Haven't felt it was necessary. But hey, the fun starts at 4500rpm anyway

I'll be in different zip code if I shift at 2500...
Problem is that there is no room in front...

The problem is, if he releases a tune like that, then the people who don't like it tend to complain on and on about it instead of just flashing a tune that works for them.

It also doesn't accomplish anything useful. As Mat said, he did something similar in the past and everyone just complained about it. He still has to work with the limitations of the stock ECU and control loops. He is approaching this in a way that will get us the best possible results. Modern transmissions are nothing like the old ones. Computer control has taken over and there is more than just engine and wheel speed that go into the equation. If anyone wants absolute control and thinks they can tune for what *they* prefer, there is always the open tuning solution.

Trust me I have read.... and read and read and read and that’s not even touching what the developer had to go through on his end that we can’t see. This 2700+ page book was an awesome read and helped me understand more about the product. One things for sure this company has its hands full with trying to make folks happy. Couple times it seemed like the developer was going to blow a gasket here on this forum and was very respectful despite being able to sense his compete and utter frustration. Sometimes just a nice ‘thanks for the hard work you’ve done for all of us’ would go so much farther and encouraging to continue. Criticism is one thing but man some folks whined bad and I even cluttered this thread over a few posts griping about the price justification. Not once was he ever rude despite my pettiness. Cudos to the guys behind the scenes though!

If ever there was a chance to try junk tunes that nobody else heavily favored then that would be interesting just to see what all possibilities are even there with this truck. Even be cool to see what he’s referring to way back when he said he could make truck shift like butter but would lose power or torque else where.

Anyway 2.0 sounds quite appealing from all the potential for changes he said he has in store. I’m excited to be able to experience the growth from now on rather than have to read about what everyone else thinks.
