While there is no mileage minimum for the tune, I would highly recommend driving the truck for a good 1000 miles before tuning simply to make sure there are no random issues with the factory setup. It's not going to hurt anything if you tune it before then, but the truck may have other un-related issues you would want to identify first. Doing so also provides you with a good baseline when later comparing the tune vs. stock performance. Just my opinion, though.

I’m gonna guess that’s a negative. I believe the computer securities block the program from running in the first place. Also, I believe the computer has to be “blessed” by Mat because that’s how he registers the dongless user. Could be wrong here, that’s just how I understand it. I have a dongle so take all that with a grain of salt. Now if you had a dongle kit, you could use any computer, but would still need to turn off all AV or make an exception for the folder where all your OVTune stuff is kept.

handheld software is not locked to any computer, so technically yes you can download the handheld software to your friends computer.

But P5Flash / flash manager, is NOT the handheld software

I just want to use my handheld not put it on his computer. My understanding is you have to download the tunes to use it?

Depend on the ECU ID but generally yes.
Read the ECU with your handheld, send us the readout file via email, we will send you the tunes for that readout

I'm the one who doesn't have a computer. I'm guessing I just need to get one.

@OVTune any progress on the handheld tuner software update for people with a 2018 and above truck?

I read through hundred of post on this thread and still have a couple of questions: (2019 offroad V6 4x4, auto, 2" lift stock tires)

    1. I had a Gen 2 4.0L that I was happy with the performance and shifting - will OV Tune make the truck perform equal to or better than the Gen 2?

    2. I pull a trailer with a side by side, total weight less than 3000lbs - current gen three really has a tough time in the hills - will OV Tune help much when towing ( I currently do use ETC when towing)?

    3. What do OV do to your fuel economy? - mine is currently about 16.5mpg 50% highway under 70mph and 50% city

I am really unhappy with the performance and shifting on the GEN 3, like the truck but not performance - considering trading if OV tune would not improve a lot

    Any help appreciated

    Thanks

It’ll never drive like your 4L. Gearing is just different, and transmission logic mucks with it further. But, OV will help it hold gears better and do away with some of that up/down repetition. If you buy in at $700 and it doesn’t solve your problems, you can get about half back when you sell the truck by selling your hardware.

OVTune would definitely help your situation. It’s worth trying. Selling without trying it first is only going to make you wonder down the road. For what it’s worth, in this config I avg 16.5-18mpgs. 300+lbs of metal stuff too

Lots of folks on this forum are willing to let you drive their truck, including me - I am in AZ Mesa area. Post where you are and maybe someone nearby will share? I drive a 2016 fully stock with a 04B04 ECU, tuned on the 2.0 beta (10867) 87 octane. Night and day difference for me, but different years and ECU IDs seem to have different results, so best to drive someones truck with your year and ECU ID if you really want to 'feel' the difference.

I will hear from OFT next week on 18+ status.

Download link for tune editor software will be available either this evening or tomorrow.

This is for folks who would like to do some of their own tuning to their trucks.

With the amount of "how to install P5f on my laptop" questions, I don't doubt it one bit. lol
