I always loved when people used variable names like A/B/C instead of a useful name that you could understand. Especially when they were reused in other places for something completely different...

Sure. It is about 1 year since 1.05 release..
There is a bunch of 16-17 and most likely othertrucks throw misfires at an alarming rate on 1.05 and 2.0. "Programmer" tells it is a hardware, eventhought users provided data to eliminate the hardware.
Programmer/ANALYST would go back and mitigate the issue.

I once had to work through code where the original programmer used famous baseball player names as variables! And another where they named a Boolean “god”!

Mat, is there any specific feedback you’re looking for from those that are able to use the files you’re posting? I know it’s not helpful to share the effects on the driving characteristics that your changes have made for the sake of unbiased feedback, but some pointers would be cool.

    Sigh..
It's already been confirmed some trucks misfire bone stock.
Some misfire with tunes. Some don't. The amount of people who have recorded higher misfire with tunes is actually an extremely small sample size of the total number of tuned trucks.
Toyota's OEM reference even says abnormal amount of misfire is ridiculously higher than anyone has ever recorded.
We have continually investigated and are still investigating why it happens on some trucks. And we have shared that with you and everyone here.

I even just posted about a potential cause with the cold fueling routine the other day.

Yet once again you're making it sound like we completely ignore it.

Show me a monkey that programs in hex.

Curious, is this misfire issues noticeable without a piece of hardware for the owner to see? I couldn’t tell ya if I have any misfires as truck starts and runs as it seems it should.

Unless you can feel an obvious misfire on a regular basis, *I* wouldn't worry about it.

If you're that concerned, you have the hardware. The Tactrix adapter works fine with Techstream to look at any data your heart desires.

Thanks for the reply but if truck isn’t running bad I personally don’t see much use in monitoring something I can’t feel. Kind of like watching the mpg on dash 24/7

Awesome thank you again matt and just want to clarify. This is for stock gearing & can also work on 4.88 (just wanted to know if that's what you meant by non 5.29 file) 4b404 trucks?

We will be here until the end of time conversing about misfires.
Some do it stock. Some don't.
Some do it or did it as a result of bad crank sensors.
Some do it for unknown reasons
Some do it only when tuned.
Some do it only using certain tunes.
Some don't do it at all.

Now, what is a misfire as recorded by OBD?
Simple. Any time the crank is not in the position the ECU expects it to be in at a certain time, a misfire is "recorded." Even when the cylinder fires perfectly fine and engine runs smoothly.

A misfire is counted any time there is any mismatch in the time of crank movement vs expected crank movement.
How the Ecu calculates expected crank movement is a mystery right now.

I default to Mats knowledge and wisdom and trust his judgement. I have one of the trucks that had high misfires prior to moving to higher elevation (30+ on 10 min drive cycles at sea level). Immediately after the move, misfires all but disappeared (>10 on 25 min drive cycles at 4500’). I have to believe Mat when he says this is not common.

To answer your question, yes. The misfires can be felt without monitoring via software. It’s subtle, but can certainly be felt.

@OVTune, will the latest beta contain changes that could possibly help alleviate said misfires? Should this be a part of the feedback users provide?

Just read your last post and want to say that I know you’ve said this before and it’s why I wasn’t concerned enough to go back to stock. Also, want to say that in my particular case, I ruled out the crank sensor by replacing it.

Sounds like it’s not very important. I’m sure there’s a reason for it being recorded but seems so technical and since you said engine fires fine and runs fine while misfiring then I’m good with it. Pretty sure some sort of check engine light will come on in the event it gets bad or possibly I’ll be able to feel it. Thanks for explaining.
