Kind of ready to order the OVTune handheld package...was reading through the files and something is not clear as I read. What is the difference between the 91 PERFORMANCE and 87 regular? I use Chevron 87 gas all the time. Is the 87 of a less tune than the 91 PERFORMANCE one? Difference?

I have the same ecu Id and 2019 tacoma pro. It was a dramatic difference for me. 91 performance was really a big improvment. Flashed different tunes a couple times. Stock seemed better when when I bought it but horrible mileage. 91 performance 1.5 was uncontrollable on tip in. Horrible for traffic jams. 2.0 I'm getting consistent 19 to 20 mpg being conservative and 17+ not even trying.

Probably depends on production date, plant that it was built in.

Dang. The best MPG I get is 18 HWY if I'm taking it easy and it's outside of town. My avg mpg lives between 15-16 combined. I'm in Portland OR. My commute is a stop-n-go traffic jam up a hill both directions. I have stock tires/wheels/suspension, but have a Prinsu cab rack, Diamondback cover and Bed rack set up which likely doesn't help me.
I agree about the 1.05 in stop-n-go traffic. Got tedious feathering the throttle. 2.0 beta has better manners than 1.05 but less exciting.

Just finished my first long haul on OVtune. Drove my Relatively stock weight truck. Geared 5.29’s with 33’s on 4.88 2.0 tune. Towed my aluminum snowmobile trailer and 1 sled (approx 1500lbs total) from sea level to 7600ft and back down. It was amazing. Loved the way it held gears and let the truck pull. seemed to find the correct gear 90% of The time. The only time I noticed a blip was a couple times at 60 in 6th I’d hit a hill that needed a downshift and would down shift to 4th back to 5th almost instantly. Never dropped lower than 4th pulling up even the steepest of hills and most of the time was in 5th going uphill.

I’m sure the 5.29 specific tune will be amazing.

netted 14.31mpg on the trip. I’ll edit with exact number in the am after a trip to the pump.

edit corrected MPG. Also edited estimated trailer weight.

2.0 has been a solid year+ in the making, do you have another huge "moon laser" project waiting to take up every second of your spare time when it's finally out the door? Or is it time for a 3 month vacation lol

Probably a supplier problem. Only applies to a small window of build time but not only Tacoma:

Have you noticed much difference with your 5.29 gears? I had mine done also and I notice a little more but not much. Was thinking I was going to be careful to not smoke the tires on a take off. Definitely not the case. Switched to the same 4.88 tune as you and a little better. Still haven’t towed yet

Always filled up with 91 at 76, just filled up at a vp racing station 91 and watching the instantinous fuel guage it is very different. Doesnt not go down as far when accelerating. Gets up to speed quicker.. I'm certain there is so many variables when it comes to quality of gas we are putting in so it's hard to say anything definitive. But I found a station that is considerably changed my trucks thirst for fuel. At least a tank to tank and a half per week at 3.90 per gallon.

AFAIK, one tank is what it takes for your truck to get used to a new tune. I'm not sure you really got to see how well that specific tune runs.

At first not much notice at all. But then I start to figure in Ive moved an entire gear down plus some and it starts to make sense. The truck holds the correct gear so much more and has a ton more power. It’s not as extreme as I thought it would be at all but it definitely is a huge difference. once u drive it around more you start to realize it more I feel. I’ve got only about 1,000 miles on my gears. Also cruising around at 75-80 is no problem at all and doesn’t feel like I’m turning too much rpms. It feels right to me.

Thanks for your response. I do feel what you are talking about. I’m only about 500 miles in. Really need the 5.29 tune but ovtune is taking longer than expected to send it. I feel that it needs more bottom end at initial take off. Kicking it in from moving is no problem. Take care man. Thanks

Interesting I have to be careful on corners and take off with my 5.29s or I will break traction.

You will enjoy the 5.29 tune. My truck is better with this 5.29 tune than any other tune I have used, including any 4.88 tune I tried.
