What exact size are your tires? Mine are 295/70-17. I’m wondering if I overdid the hearing for my tire size. I want 35’s in the future so that is why I went 5.29’s

Question for the 4:88 and 5:29 gear users . Is there a noticeable and usable difference in gears 1-4 ? Gears 5-6 should not enter into it as why not gear even a shorter gear if we had a 7 8 or 9+ overdrive gear . Not to sound smartassed but gearing to use the last overdrive gear seems just wrong to me . If taller tires and weight are really hard to move the truck with stock gears 1 and 2 , I get it .

I did 5.29s for the extra torque at start up as opposed to cruising gears. I like to 4 wheel and gears are in my blood.

I guess I would have to drive a truck with tall tires , with and without different gears to understand .

With 4.88’s the truck stays in gear uphill better and has the torque needed to achieve a fun drive. Plus towing is better

Yup off road 5.29s really shine! Plus it’s way more fun to drive with the extra torque.

If you’re ever in CO you’re welcomed to drive mine.

I like to dumb it down to this: imagine going up a hill on your bike in 7th gear, you realize you can’t so you downshift. But then you realize you’re out of shape and the hill gets steeper so you shift the front gear. Now it’s super easy to get up that hill and get moving from a stop. Same thing with taller differential gearing...

Got it . But is the 1st gear with stock gearing really that bad ?

I havent re geared but need to. The reason why I know I need it is because hills/inclines I once was able to climb in 4 Hi when I was closer to stock now require 4 lo to get up or the truck just stops climbing. As my truck got heavier it showed me it needs taller gearing for every gear not just 5-6. I dont have the tune either but also dont expect the tune to fix that. I will find out though since I cant afford to re gear the truck yet, maybe this summer/fall.

Yeah my tires are only .2” taller. Don’t get it. Maybe I need to drive it more. I wish he would just add the 5.29 to the downloadable beta section if he doesn’t have time to email everyone back.

It was a test file, What part did people miss? And they don’t need more testers. Do people not read what OVTune post?
And why distract from getting the 2.0 out. Also Mat said he is already working through the weekends to please all of us

All the betas are test files. Did it say he is only giving it out to a certain number of people? Not that I saw. No reason to call people out. I didn’t say anything rude about him. Realize he is busy, but using his tune is not free. I think for the most part we are all patient.

I did say we don't need additional testers on it. We got the feedback we were looking for, so no on to step 2 (releasing for 2019s to test)

By gearing it your truck will stay in 6th and 5th on the freeway instead of having to shift into 4th. With 33’s my truck would constantly run between 4th and 5 in the flats at freeway speed
