    @OVTune
Mat- as one of the ~100 remaining OG Dongle users, a thousand thanks for making my Tacoma drivable and for your generous vF Tuner offer. Can I ask if your offer carries an expiration date? I’d prefer to wait until 2.0 drops and I have a couple hundred miles on the tune before I decide. If 2.0 is even half as good as it sounds, my tune swapping days may be over. Follow up question, if I may- I’ve been eyeing Tundras lately. Can I assume getting vF Tuner would be useful, for say the 22 Tundra model year? Again, thanks and stay safe.

I don't think we know that just yet. It would be completely ridiculous to give up 2.0 Final just to get vfTuner for free (by turning in a dongle). Why the heck would anyone throw away their ability to use a tune file they've already spent $700 to obtain? That would be illogical in the extreme, so I really don't think that's what Mat had in mind when he said we could swap a dongle for a copy of vfTuner.

by returning the dongle you get vF and switched to p5F software.
So you don't lose the flash kit at all.

That's actually what I suspected, so thank you for the confirmation. I'd REALLY like to switch from the dongle to the p5f process now. I don't want to be a future burden on your efforts.

What steps do I need to take for that?

But unless you always downloaded and saved every tune version in p5f, you lose access to prior tunes. In my case, I've always downloaded and saved every pcm version tune as soon as they were made available (the oldest versions came by direct email IIRC). Most of them I never did actually flash. But I've never downloaded and saved any pf5 versions of any of the tunes.

wouldn’t it be better to release the 2.0 tune on the VF with a premium cost then?

seems counter productive and you’re going to lose potential costumers that don’t want to deal with custom tuning their trucks.

yeah, as most people have but why would i ever want to go back when 2.0 is far superior to any of the previous releases? You can download 1.05 tunes now if you really want them, not sure why you'd want anything prior to that.

At this point we are looking at finalizing our current updates for current customers, and moving over to our DIY software model.

There are a few reasons why I can't do that. First, 1 person could buy it then freely distribute to others who don't. Second, if I offer software and fully finished tunes that people could also modify, I could get into some trouble with the EPA. So I just don't want to dive down that realm.

I know this may sound absurd from a business standpoint, but I fully expect to lose some customers. But that doesn't mean you can't buy someone elses tune, designed with our software. I can't make everyone happy, but in the end I think our software will be more popular than our tunes.

All of our patch work will go into it, and really make it easy for you guys.
You won't have to deal with a billion torque tables, or 200+ shift settings.
1 torque map, 1 primary shift control, etc.

Also.. companies we relied on for hardware, support, etc have been impacted by COVID, even we have.

I didn't ever load 1.05 before, and I don't really think I would load it now. But there were four 2.0 beta releases, I'm still running the third. It works for me, and if this was all there is... the end.. finis... I'm happy. But there are some that are running 2.0 "final". Maybe that is the ultimate? I dunno. Hey... you're an MT guy, so you're probably running the final version aren't you? Those of us that aren't so fortunate are being told what the future is going to be, while we still haven't been updated to the present.

Reading and reading and re reading posts. Still trying to figure out Will a current flash kit owner that purchases vFtune be able to request 2.0 final once released and make small tweaks to this finished tune to their liking in vFtune? also when can we purchase vFtune at the discount? Great work Matt really looking forward to playing with vFtune.

Build 19800 beta is literally the only file available for my 2019 truck. Unfortunately, if 2.0 Final comes out with a soft/laggy tip-in, I may be stuck running that 19800 beta file forever. :notsure:

That said, Mat has never let us down before, so I'll wait for the 2.0 Final release before commenting further on that subject.

@OVTune - one more try with this question: what do I need to do to switch from dongle to p5f right now? Please and thank you.

Everyone has been affected by the corona virus.

I’m really confused by what you said here and what you posted on the front page.

    3. Our software tool will come with "example" tunes, that can be used as is, or adjusted from that point into a custom tune.

What are these example tunes going to entail if your not going to offer access to your previous tunes, especially since your saying we can use them as is?

I’m super bummed that this is happening as I’m sure may who lurk this page are so any of your responses are going to help decide if a purchase is going to be made when you release the vF.

Companies that we rely on, or relied on have been severely impacted, which affects our ability to even supply flash kits, supply handhelds, etc. We also saw a massive drop in orders and interest. So I decided decided to make the change that was already planning to happen, happen sooner. This actually relieves a lot of pressure off of us with orders, back logs, time frames on shipping, and when or how we will even get supply from our manufacturers. It also allows me to focus on our software, features, and updates, without all the bulky new customer setup, time, questions, etc. Since vF Tuner is much easier to get going and running.

    Example tunes will be :
    - Examples of a 87 octane tune, 91 octane tune
    - Examples of tunes we have created (certain elements of it)
    - and example feature tunes. Which is a file with the feature (like map switching) already setup. So you have a base map switch tune to start from.

You could use the example file as is.

Cool thats super helpful info! :bananadance:

That kills my worry about being a customer that doesn't have time to learn to tune to run your product.

Last question for me would be will the 87/91 example tunes have your shift fixes in them as a base point or will we have to tune and work those in ourselves?
