I think part of it has to do with Toyota’s reputation being consistently One of most reliable vehicle companies out there. If they easily allow modifications, who knows what people would do to their vehicles. No one ever admits they “modified” their vehicles when something happens. It a way to maintain quality assurance

I am really liking the 04B04 2.0f 91 for stock tires after the initial 100 mile break-in and resetting the learned parameters. The tip-in is fine. It seems to be a happy medium between 19770 and 19800 beta tunes. Shifting is predictable and I like having the ability to switch between the various modes. GL works well as it did before, and I especially like having ECT again. Great job Mat!!

Coud you ,as the subject matter expert, explain how are you going to clean intake valve carbon build up if you dont run port injection?
What you are saying as far as cleaning is applicable to the di injectors, not valves
I drove 40 minutes in direct mode, what will happen to those valves after 15, 30, 60K miles?

Port injection is used when you start the truck and used even more when the engine is cold.
it is also used at moderate temp depending on engine RPM and load.
unless you never, ever shut your truck off, port injection is still going to be used.

The port injection does not have to be used as much as OEM in order to keep the intake valves clean.

Not to sound rude or condescending (and apologies in advance if it comes off that way... Please understand it's not my intent). But, if you are so concerned about this, most shops/dealerships will offer a fuel injection service that will clean that gunk off for you.

Okay, you are welcome to tune the injection mode however you wish with vF Tuner.

There are pros and cons to various ways of injection control.

The older betas did not include this. That doesn't mean that the older betas version is "better."

Just to be 100% clear here, you are certain that the truck still runs in port injection mode enough to clean deposits off of the valves? If so, this whole conversation is moot.

I am sure glad I didn’t buy this tune because I thought it would change or fix the injector cleaning.

The issue is not which injection is better. Issue is will I need to scrub my valves in a year or so.

On the current setup the port injection will still be used, in port only or combined state, when the engine is cold. That's every time you start up.
Port injection is used every time during cranking, regardless of engine temp. So every time you start the valves are sprayed.
Port injection is still used during cat warm up mode.

So at a minimum you should still see port injection spray activity for anywhere from 15 seconds to a few minutes, depending on engine temp.
that is before ECU calculated injection cleaning cycles.

If the port injection was never used ever, I think you would have a more valid concern.

it is working as I designed it.

Can you please provide me with the data of how much time is required per drive cycle to ensure your valves are clean?

Can we get another user or two to monitor DI and PI on this new release of 2.0? More data points are needed.

Your sample did not include, startup, low coolant temp, low catalyst temp. So, yes, that is normal. Do you wash your truck continually or once a week? Pretty sure he has better insight than you and if you don’t like it, get vF tune. Can’t wait for my dongle trade to be done so I can abandon this thread.
