It seems to me that once OV gets the base maps for both the auto and manual finalized, fixing all of Toyota's stock tune nonsense, adjusting the tune for mods like an intake or exhaust wouldn't be too bad. With datalogging I'm pretty sure he could probably dial in the tune. Remember too that the biggest issue we have(had) with our trucks was mostly related to the stupid torque limiting and drive by wire throttle limiting. From the 3d graphs OV posted a while ago, they spent very little time optimizing anything. Combine torque management improvements as well as VVT adjustments and you have a much more responsive and driveable vehicle.

Fuel/air changes from an intake or exhaust are relatively trivial provided the MAF/MAP readings are good still.

Maybe i'm talking out of my ass here, but after all the work that has been done in 3 months to get to 1.02C, I don't see tuning for bolt-ons to be that big of a hurdle. Granted it takes time and effort, but technically speaking it is not nearly as challenging.

    So far
    1. Feels way less laggy then stock. More sensitive then 1.01b. I ran it up to redline one time. Power has always felt more linear than stock with the tune. The power does seem good and smooth. It just progressively pulls harder as it revs.

    2. Low end response feels good. The truck feels less choppy and jerky taking off. Feel stronger then 1.01b or stock currently. I can blurp the throttle and make the traction control kick on in first gear if I am aggressive.

    3. Idle feels creamy. Not running the AC today. It's cool here. Turning the steering wheels back and forth does not make the idle jump near as much or really at all that I know.

So far the 1.02c seems to have at least the power that 1.01b was making or more. It feels smooth like the other version of 1.02. the first version of 1.02 did not do well with my truck and 1.01a made my truck stutter really bad.

I know it's a little early to expect this kind of feedback, but damn.. it sounds very promising indeed!

Thank you very much for the detailed reply, sir. :hattip:

    :D

Finally writing to ECU now... Snuck out away from my desk to kick it off.

Headed home at 5, on the new tune if this goes right, should have a full review later tonight.

Note, like others with MT have mentioned, only received 1 file. Assuming it's a 91 time @OVTune ? No problem as I'm on
    :D

Finally got away to get the tune installed... easy flawless process.

Heading home in about 30 min, will have an initial review for everyone tonight.

As other MT guys have mentioned, only received 1 file. @OVTune I'm presuming this is for 91 octane? No problem as that's what's in the tank right now, curious about the 87 tune, still in the works? Thanks,

Since it's the cool thing to do, I'll throw in my $0.02...

I have 50 miles on 1.02C and I *DID NOT* reset the learned ECU data this time. It seemed like the learning curve was not as bad. This tune feels a lot like 1.01B, the power is there and is very linear. The VVT adjustments are much less noticeable and as mentioned already, progressive. I did not feel like the truck fell on it's face in 3rd gear. My butt dyno is happy with the power and how linear it is. I did also notice that the AC kicking in did not make the truck shudder even close to what it used to. It also didn't seem to rev as high as before with the AC compressor engaged. I'm not sure if it was tuning or if it was because it is now quite a bit cooler here than it was a month ago.

I'm going to give it another day or two to reserve final judgement, but I think this is as good as it gets for us MT guys until OV gets one on the dyno. Nailed it. :mudding:

well i seem to be the odd man out ATM... no file received and no reply to comments/emails. but my 1.02b is so good i have no complaints at all. still an upgrade is an upgrade, so I'm in vicarious mode for now. keep reporting back for my ecu-crack addiction. :cookiemonster:

I feel you, got left out last time for a bit - AND I WAS STILL ON THE STOCK GARBAGE!

I'm just in passive mode now, 'cause I'm a 04B10 - next week maybe?

Well there's any number of ppl on here who are better versed than I, but I would suggest the following:

    1. For now, don't worry too much about OV tune version numbers. You're probably gonna get 1.02C for your M/T, unless you request an earlier tune release;

    2. Have a read of OVtune's instructions while you wait for your kit. In there, you'll find a section about reading your ECM and sending that file to Mat via email - from this, Mat (and you, BTW) will be able to see your truck's current OEM software version. As an M/T, yours will be one of three - 04B10, 04B11, or 04B12. This is transparent to you, as Mat will send the correct OVtune that is built for one of these three.

    Does this make sense?

So for 1.02C (current OVtune version), Mat has to create 3 flavours - one for 04B10, one for 04B11, and one for 04B12.

Edit: Oh and ignore all that 04B02/04B03 and "shift A/B/C" stuff, it's all just auto trans nonsense :D
