I want regular S-mode for 4 wheeling. I don't need to be locked into a gear, I want to set the maximum gear that the truck will upshift to.

S+ECT will do this. Plus give you better power characteristics for off road

so i'm confused, are you running the latest 2.0F? i thought gearlock was still enabled with Smode + ECT . i actually quoted ovtune in an old post back from november about 10 pages back that stated that was how it was going to be but maybe this changed.

Does yours downshift when in S and ECT on? Mine does not. Any time I have it in S mode it will not downshift (except when coming to a stop for example).

because it keeps changing, and since MT's are the only one with a final... it would be nice to know, what works and what doesnt, when and why. Ski

PLEASE consider changing the filenames to include proper versioning (dates, build numbers, etc).

As for gearlock, I don't think I'm the only one who doesn't want to use it. I tried it once with 1.05 and uninstalled it after just one day. I simply don't need or want sport shifting in my pickup truck. Standard S-mode and S-4 towing works for me -- especially offroad. :notsure:

Will it be fairly easy to revert to standard S-mode using vfTuner? If so, we should be good to go. Either way, we can deal with it, so thank you for continuing to support us.

Mine does not shift in S + ECT either. Or at least it did not with the first 2.0f version. I didnt think to try it this morning with the new one.

I tried on yesterday’s release and gear was locked with ECT+S. Torque converter is another topic in the same discussion. I’d like the TC to stay locked when in tow mode to keep heat down. Here in northern Nevada, we have to pull some long steep climbs to get to some of our camping destinations.

Im all about utilizing VF for all of our particular preferences... I just hope there’s some clear guidance or people that are smarter than me that are willing to share.

I'd say that's pretty good evidence that ECT + S-mode is gear locked, assuming that that version would have been final.

Gets mad when people don't understand the blog post....doesn't understand the blog post. Love it.

By the way, nice turn around time on a new build OV.

Mine did not downshift with either. After flashing yesterday's tune I towed my camper back to storage (after bringing it home for a cleaning) and it did not shift in tow mode. Which makes sense.
Same here regarding the TC. I asked Mat a year or so ago and he said it was possible but that was the end of it.

Edit: I will say though that on my trip to Moab UT from Cincinnati last year I monitored my tranny temp over the passes. It never got hot enough to worry about. That was not Nevada heat though.

I was under the impression that S + ECT was not a GL map. But it all gets confusing with so many people guessing all the time.

Yeah, I was born and raised in CO and am all too familiar with the differences. I’d imagine I’d be gear locked in 3 at 4-5K rpm on I-70 up to Eisenhower due to it being steeper and higher. I moved to UT in 2005, but had my 2003 Tacoma that struggled all over the CO hills as well.

I haven’t had my truck shift out of gear lock yet. Seems if it stays above 2500-3000 rpm it will hold it.

My 5.29 geared truck is on 4.88 2.0beta 04b31 91 octane tune. It can pull in 5th gear towing my rig i can feel it, but the damn TC keeps unlocking when not necessary going down the flat highway. I'm verifying this using a scan gauge as well as monitoring temps and see them spike up when its unlocking. it's locked out completely in 5th above 60mph on the dash, about 65 corrected for tires but i'd like to pull slower than those speeds as that's above the towing speed limit here in CA. I have to find the sweet spot and pay super close attention to my throttle if i want to tow below 60mph.

I too purchased vFtuner in hopes that i can correct and tune this behavior down the road, but it doesn't look possible in the current version of vftuner unless i'm missing something. I spent a few hours going through the tables trying to figure it out. I havn't been able to try the new Tow mode, nor has their been a 5.29 tune with gearlock available yet, but i'm hoping when i do it may help with the TC unlocking too early at those speeds.

Cold crank today had the hesitation. Other than that, still very happy with this tune
