I’m just looking for the GearLock feature. Is there a way to just get that or what else do I have to do to get it? Went on the ovtuned website but came away even more confused. Any help would be appreciated!

Also in CO, and DESPISE that the truck still shifts in S mode (salesman at the dealership lied when I asked if S mode was just like a manual in that it locked the gear), the shift dance absolutely infuriates me. To each their own though.

Putting the AT/MT drama aside.... It's a fact that dual clutch "good" ATs are generally superior in every metric of performance vs. MT. IMO anything with a TC is still in muddy water. If you want to get into reliability and driving experience, those are completely different things.

Bottom line, a good DC auto will generally outperform its MT equivalent every time.

I enjoyed getting frisky in the Macan. It was pretty amazing how well it predicted gear selection and would be ready and waiting for my next move. I've never had an automatic that would hold 3500+ rpm at a stable speed (with a few gears on either side), waiting for me to decide if I was done playing. It was definitely a fun car to drive. Even the paddles were engaging to play with.

But back to topic... To this day, I miss my Toyota pickup with the 4-banger and a manual. And that one went bye-bye over 20 years ago.

I drive a 2017 TRD Pro w/ OvTune. I am a Porsche Tech. I sure wish my Tacoma shifted like I can make a Macan drive. Power and shifting in a late model Porsche works, Really well. Some days getting in to my truck makes me feel like I'm climbing into my 1975 Cheyenne thats 1/2qt low on tranny fluid.(edit, wouldn't dare take a Macan where my Tacoma goes. )

FYI. I have a 1yr old & a 5yr old. My 5yr old likes to watch me flash the new beta tunes. After we get a Successful and fire up the truck, the first thing he says is "remember, it takes a while for the Tune to settle". WTF? Seriously. I try to listen to him but, if it doesn't cooperate within 100 miles I go back to the Tune that works for my truck. (Since they ALL behave differently. ) And since I'm the one driving the damn thing.

Yap. They're all different. One of the last betas didn't work too well for me. This most current one is stellar though.

The 2019 test tune fixed almost every complaint I had with erratic shifting. The downshifts are predictable and I can hold a gear with the throttle almost as effectively as gear lock does. The only thing gear lock did was make me hit a torque target and then then truck slowed down because it refused to muscle past an incline. I never once got the impression the engine was willing to work any harder in a given gear locked where it would have been downshifting in regular mode.

I take E470 to work every morning. By limiting it to 5th gear until it flattens out I get predicable shifts between 5th and 4th. If I allow it to go into 6th the shifting becomes erratic. I don't doubt that people have uses for gear lock, but I very much have a use for traditional S Mode in my daily commute.

I really liked the old method of there being a choice between two popular options. I don't think it became a real discussion topic because up until now nobody was sure what was going to be carried over from the original 2.0 final version notes and the upcoming build.

Besides the rare stubble on start and the CEL due to the lack of a catted dump tube tube...

...the final final final 2.0 is the best this damn truck has ever driven.

    smooth, predictable, powerful.

I downloaded it at 5am. Left for work at 7am. Got to work at 7:15am and was going to load it up until I saw reputable OvTuners post about the same start up issue so I decided not to even try it. My current Tune only has one little glitch that only happens when I drive over one certain Mountain Pass so...I'd rather deal with that one glitch than what the beta 2.0 have done for My Particular Rig. Since They Are All Different. What I'm trying to say is, Mat, keep doing what you're doing but not all tacomas react the same way to your tunes. If I'm stuck running the tune that works for me, so be it. Still better than stock. Just saving my money for gears now.

What does that even mean? I’m not disputing that if you were in a 488GTB and I was in something equivalent (hypothetically of course because nothing is equivalent to Ferrari) with a manual trans, and we raced through all the gears that you in your auto would be the first to get into 6th. That’s what it was designed to do so sure. But it takes away from the experience. Heal and toe shifting for example. A skill that probably most people today have never even heard of. It’s not about being the first to slap through the gears lol. Let me show you my trigger finger in action if that kind of thing excites you lol.

So my understanding is that there is an updated second version of the 2.0 final that came out Sunday, is this correct?

Is it the startup stumble that was fixed or something else?

I'm all for there being multiple tune versions to give people options. Lord knows we all seem to want some kind of different configuration lol

    Correct.

    See post #63431 for details.

Some testers reported that startup stumble not fixed 100%. Files were temporarily taken down.

This hasn't always been the case. There was a time when automatics SUCKED! They've come a long ways in the past few decades...

I used to think that, too, and I was genuinely upset that manuals were all being replaced by DCT's. Until I rented an AMG C63 with a single disc clutch. I thought I would lose that connected feeling, but I think the opposite happened. It shifted so friggin fast and that car was just a monster. It really does let you focus on the other aspects of driving more, and you get the connection that way. I thought it was also more connected feeling to flick the paddle and have instant response instead of going through the shifting process.
