But why? Is it intentional for some reason? Does re-gearing cause it, or the tune, or both?

not sure what causes it, but didn't see it until I went to 5.29s and 35s. I have asked @OVTune here if its going to get removed and others have as well, I have not seen an answer.

Ok, so it's not an intentional thing for safety of the driver or the truck then? Be interesting to hear if it'll get resolved.

I think the truck has some kind of speed limiter built in and it shows with the gears and tires. Not sure though. I hope Matt can pull it out.

that’s a bummer to hear. I never tested wot while I was on that tune. I’d be curious to hear from someone on the latest 2.0f test tune with 5.29’s and the tire size specific Tunes to see if that rev limiter stumble from 2nd -3rd At WOT is still there.

agreed. I don't plan on ever going over 90, but I don't like having an arbitrary rule imposed on me.

The limiter exists on all trucks, but is "lowered" with gears. The truck thinks you're doing 110mph (or whatever the stock tune limits you to), but with gears you're doing 86mph

I have 5.29 gears running 295/70-17’s. I’m running the 2.0 base 91 5.29 with 31-33” tire selection. I have the Hypertech speedometer calibrator and max out at 96mph. The truck sounds like it is trying to do more but will not accelerate past 96mph. 2017 TRD off-road 4x4 AT 04B04

with those tall gears, do you guys think, you might just be out of gear, and it wont pull anymore? mechanical limit? food for thought. Ski

That's one of the things I wondered, that maybe putting in such different gears might actually be pushing something to it's limit? I wouldn't be surprised if it's programmed in for "safety" though.

Higher numbers actually mean shorter gears. Similar to the aperture on a camera, the number is inverse to what would make sense (bigger number is a shorter gear, and bigger number is a smaller aperture). So 5.29 is actually shorter than the stock ratio.

In this case, if he was running out of gear he would actually be beating the truck against the rev limiter. What he's experiencing is an electronic governor.

Makes me wonder why the shops that put in gears don't fix it, unless it's not easy to fix... Hopefully Mat can chime in and tell us whether it's something he can tweak, or if it can be done in vF

I can fix it, it's in the programming. I thought I did last time, a few people confirmed that it was gone, but sounds like it isn't now.

I figured that it wouldn't be their bailiwick, but if I was installing something that then affected another aspect negatively and *possibly* endangered the driver (like if you had to get on the gas to avoid a semi where they're doing 80+), I'd take the time to fix it if I could so the customer had the best experience with my product as possible.

Come on McFly! Traveling at 88mph could result in accidental time travel and altered time lines.
