Many of the past tunes were set up to run their best as flashed and for some trucks would degrade over time and miles. These latest tunes released start off at the lowest performance possible and instead of degrading over time and miles, they will get better and better. Each truck will find its happy spot over time adjusting to each individual truck and the owners driving habits.
If after it settles in you want somethings a bit different, that is what vF Tuner is for. Nobody can produce one tune that is going to make everyone happy. The latest release is a solid foundation that will make many very happy. So again. if you would like some thing different after you have put over 500 miles on your latest tune, vF Tune it to your individual taste.

edit: I was incorrect. Read mats quote ->

    “To be clear.

The "regular" and the "premium" are 2 different tunes with different ignition setups.“

okay my turn to look like a fool. So i got the latest flash manager 1.3. I went to click on P5Flash Utility and it was grayed out, so i did the Config/Purge Local Data then Install All Software. I went back to P5Flash Utility and clicked it. What should happen next is I get my system ID. But that never happens, instead it just sits there with a little "ready..." note at the bottom. Anyone get this before?

*technically* correct but not really what we set them up for.

Even though the premium octane tune *can* degrade ignition for regular octane gas, it has to move the amount of ignition further than it would if you were running the regular tune, which means higher initial detonation readings.

if you plane to use regular grade gas you should not use the premium tune.

regular > learning zoned 85 to 89 octane
premium > learning zoned 90 to 94 octane.

Using less than 90 octane will significantly degrade performance.

So is it that the Premium tune has a higher ceiling or is it that they are totally different tunes.

Will running regular fuel on premium tune run worse (after learning) than running regular fuel on regular tune?

The premium tune has a higher ceiling and higher base.

Got it now. So running regular on the premium file can potentially case damage. I think a lot of people understood OLE to exist across the entire octane range not just within a specified range. @BlazinBlue I believe you were correct.

I appreciate the explanation. I for one have been running premium only since the day this truck was first tuned. The cost difference isn't worth it not to.

ok someone refresh my memory. I clicked "purge local data" and now cant remember since all my trucks data is gone. To re establish the id of the truck do I click P5 Flash utility or PCMFlash Utility? everytime I click on either one of them it opens up a windows explorer to the 'tunes' folder. I am like huh? And yes I did the help>>update of software with key in ignition as per instructions. I did this successfully a couple times already so I know it works.
