I’m seeing about the same in my 61 truck.

I have, however, started experiencing an increase in TC hang while using CC after a slow hill climb. I’ll be doing 65ish, go up a hill, have the TC unlock, and then stay that way long after I crest the hill and either flatten out or start on the decline.

    Have you experienced anything similar?

Short of that highway dead pedal tune that got fixed in about a week or so, all tunes on my 61 have also been trouble free. Previously on 60 and it was happy too.

Take those fatass offroad tires off and run some regular street/all season tires. You will have a life changing experience towing. Don't believe me? Go watch my dyno video and see for yourself on YouTube. Search 3rd gen toyota tacoma dyno. Heavy offroad tires take massive power away from your truck. That's your issue. Sounds like you wanna burn out ur trans using gear lock. Do you have a gauge monitor ? . Just giving yah a solid answer. Tires are putting a big roll on you regardless of gears.

I had some other expenses pop up over the last few months but I’m ready to buy and sick of the shitty shifting in my ‘16. As I read and understand it, I do not need to buy the tune pack, just vForest and the open port 2.0 and then I can tune the truck on my own or I can buy the tune pack, however in either case gear lock is still not available?

Gear lock *could* be available if you wanted to tune from a factory tune. You’d just have to tease out of Mat the tables and settings to make it work.

His latest comment was that the performance and gear lock versions *might* be out be the end of September.

The gear lock is one of the really appealing things for me about OV Tune. I do a lot of highway driving and cruising at 70 and it would be nice to just lock the truck in 6th and just mash the gas like I could when I had my second gen manual. 5.29’s are in the near future too. With gear lock alone i feel like the drivability will be enhanced a lot. I need to start saving for the turbo kit too.

Yeah, aware of how tires (and wheels) affect power. Again, Tacoma is not great for towing. Also, not sure you understand gear lock if you think that what I’m trying to get done will “burn out my trans”. Just trying to give yah a solid answer.

I did some in town shopping and then went out of town to do more. Put on another ~70 miles with a mixture 70% Hwy and 30% city streets. Lot of elevation changes too....the pic below only details the trip out of town, the trip back followed basically the same route. The earlier shopping trip was local.

There are 2.0 beta tunes available NOW with gear lock for most trucks. They work very well! The files are shareable. All you have to do is ask. The 04B04 (2016 & 2017) ECU has many available tunes with gear lock.

just find a local VFTuner user and have them do the tune for you. At most $75 in cost for credits if your ecu is not the same as theirs. Sounds like you are 04B02 or hopefully 04B04. Is you have not upgraded to 04B04 do so. Check your local Thread or VFTuner thread for assistance. GL.

Flash Kits have been discontinued. I don't know if the new owner can still re-register what you have. If not, all you have is a used Tactrix Cable that is worth about $100.
