I wish it was that way from the start, but the developer we were working on was reluctant. He's been replaced.

A list is not available yet, but we will have for pro tuners. A list won't be needed after our update comes out.

While I have no personal experience with people doing that, I'm not sure this comment is correct. You can buy the additional credits, unlock the customers ECU, and flash the appropriate tune, no? The "value" in the $200, is the customer doesnt pay the upfront cost of software and hardware

    That is correct.

So I wouldn't automatically assume someone is not authorized to do so.

But chances are if they are flashing you with a P5F file, it's unauthorized.

I thought so, but apparently not. In my opinion it was preying on unsuspecting individuals though because they were charging hundreds more than they were paying to unlock the ECU ID and were flashing them with the base tune.

Edit: When I say base tune I'm saying whatever 2.0 base was coming with the flash manager. Not even one of the homebrew TW user tunes. Guys with literally NO tuning experience just profiting like crazy.

the value in the "$200", is the customer doesn't have to pay the hardware and software costs (approx $500)

now the vendor charging $800CAD chatted about earlier is another story :)

    Right.
in all fairness, some people are using vF Tuner to make additional income, which is rightfully theirs to do!

If you are buying a flash that's customized, has airload tables changed, battery voltage, etc or whatever for $200 you're getting a great deal!

Wait, so people are allowed to flash as many ECUs as they want if they own VFTuner? Yeah, I'm thoroughly confused at what the model is.

agreed. I certainly wouldn't be content. I want product in hand.

But as illustrated many times in this thread, some people are just not into, or able, to do this themselves.

Becomes even more of a "deal" if you don't own a laptop and have to factor that cost in

Yes. If you purchase the additional credits to do so. Edit - plus tune pack for a different ECU version than original purchase

how it works is like this:

    1. You have vF Tuner
    2. Any ECU you have unlocked (via credits) you can make files for and flash
    3. Any ECU you want to put OUR (ovtune) tune on, you must purchase a tune pack for that ECU ID specifically.
    4. Then you can flash the truck.

So if someone has vF Tuner, unlocks 04A61, bought 04A61 tune pack, they can, if they wanted to, flash other 04A61 trucks.

It's what it is. :notsure: I go off of what he states. Plus, I've a MT, I'm perfectly happy with my 2.0 final and the ability to make edits on it from there

Ok, that is what I always understood the model to be. What is the issue with unauthorized flashing then? Maybe that's what I'm getting confused about. Are you saying people were using the old software (pre VF) to flash multiple trucks? I guess I didn't realize that was possible.

People bought vF Tuner, no additional credits, no tune packs, and are redistributing/selling P5F files.

Wow, didn't know that was even possible. I thought you had to unlock the appropriate ECU ID to be able to flash it. Definitely shady stuff.

    yes, yes I do.

Ovtuned has been clear on this multiple times.
The product includes the latest tune, which is 2.0 F (year version availability discussion aside)
While updates are included, that doesn't automatically mean there will be additional updates (to the tune, not the software)
Part of the mistake, IMO, is Ovtuned mentioned working on a performance +/- gearlock version, but by no means is there an obligation to do so.
Customers are provided the latest version.

VFT allows to do what they want, if they want to

I am, because that was what was sold to me

*I read the fine print (there isn't really fine print, just an understanding of what was being said by ovtuned, not TW posters)

The 3.5L tacoma still has 4 years of it's life cycle left. Many more features and options are coming, it's all being integrated into vF Tuner.
