Have you thought of a way to sell a one-time use flash for a cheaper price?

Something you could plug into your OBD2 it downloads itself and then it's no longer useful.... I have no idea if that's even possible but that would be pretty cool. I'd be willing to bet a s*** ton of people would spend $250 on a single performance tune when they sit there and whom and how about spending $800 on something they're most likely going to only use once.

I would like to assume not, else credits would then go away. I think Matt would loose more money because most people wouldn't be willing to pay for the pro version. I'd rather pay $75 per ECU and slowly unlock over time rather than forking out $1,250.

That's definitely doable. Look up an "e-fuse." Samsung uses it in their phones for Knox to detect if the phone was rooted. Once it's tripped, there's no resetting it. Xbox has it as well but that contains multiple fuses.

Could "burn" the "fuse" upon completion of the flash. Interesting idea Moose.

1 time flash is something definitely possible, but not something we are interested in. Doesn't make sense with vF Tuner and opens up too many open ends.

    what happens on bad flash?
what happens if you need to go to stock?
    etc etc etc

There are no plans to make the software locked to a individual VIN.
    lets not speculate.

What will happen is that your trucks VIN will need to be checked before you're allowed to flash. (all done through software. no emails!)

Wondering if this will fix the issue of a windows update changing the hashed key, preventing flashes.

This is irrelevant anyway since Mat has already stated that the Pro upgrade doesn't net you free ECU access, you'd still need to pay to unlock ECUs.

Mat, I think what everyone is trying to figure out though is why? How's it work?

Are you moving to software that will no longer allow p5f maps to be flashed (even for those who rightfully possess them for their truck?), and then the software will identify a MY and check it against what ECU IDs the user has unlocked?

Point being if I want to tune another vehicle right now, I just need to unlock the ECU and make some tweaks. If it changed to VIN only (unless you're on the pro version [based on speculation]) then it would cost significantly more. I could have went into more detail in my post, but figured it was unnecessary.

Regardless, it sounds like this will be a good update and I look forward to it. I hope it will be an easy transition from one version to the other.

also not trying to poke the bear, but isn’t a VIN linked to sensitive information like DMV records and what not? Couldn’t someone get this through the software? Is it encrypted?

Someone can get your VIN by looking through the bottom driver side corner of your windshield. So I doubt it's that critical. Kind of like how people cover up the license plate when they post a pic of their vehicle online when literally thousands of people see it everyday when you drive down the road.

I understand this, but when it’s run through the digital ether the situation could be different. Just checking

I think a few "bad apples" including Micro Soft Inc. have, and continue to, make this diamond in the rough a dying jewel. JMO so blast away. Maybe one more flash of 2.0 performance when it comes out and I'm done. You will see my OVTune OBD device up for sale after that.
