IIRC, if you currently have a flash kit, there is no need to send in a request for reg key. You use the same one.

 

Correct. Unless you had the dongle, then you need to send it in and request a reg key.

You also still need a master key for vf tuner

Personally, I’m keeping an eye out for a super simple off the shelf tune for my 2021 OR. No tweaking, no editing, no multiple steps. Just would love to get a solid reliable file and easily have it load onto the truck!

 

@OVTune has that for you as the 2021 Tune Packs are available. 04C20 for ATs and 04C30 for MTs.

There is also 04C00, which I think is the Mexican market ATs? I don't know if there is a TP for that yet.

 

cool, thanks, I’ll have to try and read up more. Honestly, when I googled, I got into a whirlwind of OV / FV “no longer plug and play”, editable etc etc that turned me off pretty quickly.

I’m getting old, I guess lol. I like the approach that Renntech has for my AMG...they send me a plastic OBD2 dongle, I plug it in and press the button and 5 minutes later I have 600 horsepower

 

This is a bit different than that, but the vF Full Tunes are excellent. What you need is there.

 

I don't recall hearing/seeing an announcement for the 04C30 tune pack, am I mistaken? I am pretty certain about the AT being released...

 

Crap! I was thinking of your Taco and thought is was out for a while. It looks like I messed that up with 04C30 vF support. My bad.

 

Oh, support in vF is definitely there. He had it ready within a week or ten days or something. All the playing around I've done is on the stock file, however. I did find his announcements for 04B91, 04B33 and 04C20 but not mine. I imagine still a WiP

 

This seems to be a common misconception. It is still plug and play, just like it always had been. Its just that now there is also the option for diy tune edits.

 

I have a guy that will tune my truck for $200, my question is will this effect future vehicle inspections when they check emissions? Since I won't be able to flash it back to stock whenever I want is it still worth having done? Any insight will be helpful.

 

Emissions checks DTCs and Readiness Codes. Both are completely clear with the drive cycle. vF Tune is EPA compliant.

 

Well, it doesn’t surprise me. Others, like me, probably go to the OV website and read the FAQ and our heads start spinning.

The videos show an OBD2 dongle...
and the FAQ states that no more kits or dongles are being made

Then there is a video showing how to download the correct tune files...
and then reading later it says do NOT download files and just unzip the pack

There is a tune pack for sale...
but reading more into the FAQ talks about how there are no off the shelf maps and these are starting points for people to tweak.

The video shows Gear Lock functionality...
but reading elsewhere states that the tune files don’t have Gear Lock capability.

I think sales would benefit and lots of folks would be more comfortable and clear if there was just a simple package without all the extra info, and it contained the dongle, the cable, the correct tune pack, and the interface registration to flash them. KISS

Anyway, I’m sure I’ll figure it out in the future after bugging more people or the OV person, and seems like something I’ll enjoy.

 

You could always check out this thread by @tonered and get someone local to you to tune your truck for a small fee. Then you won’t have to figure it out. There’s a list of people in the first post.

There are still remnants of the previous software, OVTune. Give it some time, vF is fairly new and still well in the development stage.

Here's a response I got when I asked the same:
"We wouldn't sell a $400 add-on product if it wouldn't make any improvements."

Here's what came in my email when I received my tune pack:
"These files do not have gearlock, or any other features yet. This is being worked on and announcement will be made when those files are available."

@OVTune I had to download the 04B81 from the beta files when I tuned my truck in September. I cannot find any 04B81 files anywhere, I've googled and have not seen any info on this. Updated to 1.3.3 and 2020 is still only showing 04B80 and 04B90. Where do I find or download more 04B81 files?

I believe all of the old .p5f ( ? ) files have been taken down. They are replaced with the vForest software and .vft files.
If you're a legacy user .... you can upgrade for free ( Dongle peeps ) or $79.00 for the dongleless.
