Is it cool if I DM you for the info on changes to make for this? Or if anyone can guide me on the tables responsible for gearlocking and what changes to make?

The only way to change the top speed is with the global vehicle maximum speed. Not the gear selection.
Changing the tire size or the gears does not change the shift points in VFtuner.
It may do "something", but only Mat knows what.
What I said was that I tried all versions of tires and all versions of gears on my truck with stock gears and 33" tires and felt NO difference.

So that is not Ignorant, it is an experience that I personally tested.

 

I cannot speak for the gear settings, but the tire size did not affect the driving whatsoever.
It shifts based on speeds/accelerator/load.
The tires size may affect your shifting indirectly(added weight, rolling resistance)

 

Stock is going to be different from someone that is geared. Trucks with 5.29s needed more than just the max speed raised to pass 86 mph due to the way the calculations work. Just because it doesnt make a different on a stock truck, doesnt mean it doesn’t make a difference on any truck.

 

That tune has injection mode modification. It starts in Direct injection(this is where you have a stumble), follows by port+direct for 20-25 sec, then direct. Cycles between both and direct until the coolant reaches the operational temps. After that all Direct with a few flares to Both

I can take a truck with 5.29 gears and do NOTHING except raise the global speed limiter, and it will do exactly that. It will go pass the 86 mph.

This is correct.

There are 2 separate calculations going on here though.

Changing the gear ratios / tire sizing corrects the *internal* calculations for the transmission, calculations for tables that use vehicle speed, etc.

But the actual vehicle speed limit is a separate calculation and a whole separate entity (ABS, body module, etc).


When you change the gear ratio to 5.29, for example, it does not change the vehicle speed limitation because this is controlled by an outside entity (ABS, wheel speed sensors).
It does change how the ECU calculates internal logic for the transmission.


It's convoluted because Toyota uses an "all math" and "all real world" (math being numbers in the ECU) and real world (being actual vehicle speed) and the logic DOES NOT compare one to another. So Internal logic =/= reality



like this:
Real speed equation: Wheel speed sensor = 9600
internal logic : Gear * rpm * final * state of tC etc etc etc = 10,500.

*originally* we thought changing the gear ratio would fix the speed limit.

he has already adjusted the Tune for speed if you got it from him. Now Light Speed. Was Slow as You Go speed.

So I tuned my buddy today, 35"s on 5.29... he recorded a video of him doing 83MPH @ a little under 5k RPM and dropped to 3k RPM. I verified in the Vehicle Maximum Speed Global that it was set to 173 KPH aka 107 MPH. Do you know why it hung there and wouldn't go past 83?

173 is stock setting (for stock gears)
You need to go way higher.

 

Do I need to bring this above 173 KPH?

 

Thanks for that... any idea "how high"? What's the logic? Theoretically wouldn't that be high enough? Or am I missing something? Bump it to 250 KPH? More? Thanks @PapaRee for the lightning quick responses.

 

Just go to 300 or so.

The reason it's limiting the speed is because the truck thinks it's going 107mph (the max)

Make it's limit 200 and it will never make it there

 

We want to let everyone know that while we finish up this massive update to our software, our store will temporarily be closed.
- we will still process ALL pending orders.
- we will still send and process registrations / keys etc. So please don't freak out!

The software will still be available for download + the software update(s) will be as well during the closure.


We want to take this time to accomplish 3 things
- Completely catch up on pending tickets (so when we return there is 0 pending tickets)
- Finish the software update, instructions, etc without continued delays
- Finish any current product development.


During this time anyone with our software will still fully be able to use it of course. vF Tuner updates will also be published and available for download during this time.

 

I know I should probably just try this out, but will the "READ" function in FM download the tune that's on the truck? And can it be viewed?
